Build and Install Packages?

I'm still somewhat new to The Slackware Way. I've been visiting SlackBuilds.org which seems to be one of the more basic ways to get applications. Or at least pre-built scripts that handle making them from the Source Code. Chromium was fairly simple just being 1 Slackbuild + SourceFile. I just finished building Gparted which required building other dependencies first.

I just wondered if there are other options I should be aware of. I suppose if I wanted to, I could have made a clever Shell Script to handle getting everything for Gparted off of Slackbuilds and installing the built packages.

I guess there is another command called Slackpkg and I'm not quite sure what that is good for.

Also, might it be possible to be a lazy Slacker and install the Slapt-Get command like the one in SalixOS from here: http://software.jaos.org ?

If I have a system using different methods like Slackbuilds, Slackpkg, and Slapt-Get, could these different install methods cause a kind of instability problem or confusion?

Lazy slacker? Huh, installing Slackware, one must be ready to deal with it, because it's never a user-friendly OS. Despite having different way to manage packages, Slackware advanced users run Slackbuilds way more often.

I poked around and found something a little more convenient: http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.1/system/slpkg/?search=slackpkg

Just pull this and install Slpkg. This command basically does the homework for you walking through SlackBuilds.org grabbing the main software plus required dependencies. It will still be time consuming as it compiles from source, but you can basically trigger it with one command. I successfully install Inkscape this way just running slpkg -s inkscape.

Trying another one called SboPackage.

http://www.sbopkg.org/

This one launches from the terminal just typing 'sbopkg' and has a Ncurses menu. It basically syncs with SlackBuilds.org and allows you to search it for applications. It will then manage lining up the dependency requirements from SlackBuilds.
