Blue USB Mic on Ubuntu 14.04

I'm trying to configure a Blue Nessie USB Mic on Ubuntu 14.04 (actually Ubuntu studio) on an Asus UL2oFT notebook.
I have tried the mic in Windoze so I know it's not broken.
I see that the Mic has connected in Ubuntu in dmesg, lsusb, and cat /proc/asound/cards
My problem is that neither jack, pavucontrol, or audacity can see the thing.
I have Googled extensively. Most of the entries are from 2012 or earlier, and some of the newer ones report trouble with 14.04.
Do I have to resort to Wine and Windows drivers? I checked Wine in apt and was intimidated by the number of packages needing installation. Last time I installed that much at once, I hosed my system.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
