I'm running linux mate and I am used to using timeshift on my linux mint. I don't know too much about Back Up. I can't get past the restore test. Any idea of how to fix it or another back up system to use. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Linux mate is still running good. Just installing some stuff so I can do programming classes on my linux instead of windows. Just want to back date everything. Hope all is well.

Hope all is well

... and with you :)

Just a reminder, I think it is LInux Mint MATE you are using, the Distro is Linux Mint, the DE (desktop environment) is MATE.

I have not used the inbuilt Backup Tool for 5 years, since I found Timeshift, which ticks/checks all my boxes.

If you have any questions on Timeshift, I have a Thread here

Sounds like running an incremental snapshot with TS based on your last snapshot would do the trick for safeguarding the new apps installed.

Cheers
