ParisCNN —
The arrest of the Russian-born billionaire founder of Telegram, a messaging app known for its unfiltered content, has sparked debate about freedom of speech and illegal content on the internet.

Pavel Durov, 39, was detained at Paris’s Bourget Airport Saturday on an arrest warrant related to Telegram’s lack of moderation, which has led to money laundering, drug trafficking and the spread of pedophilic content on the platform, according to CNN-affiliate BFMTV.

Durov was traveling to Paris from Azerbaijan aboard his private jet, the network reported.

Telegram, which has about 900 million users, is a crucial communication tool in many countries, used for everything from day-to-day chatting to disseminating government messages.

Israel complained so of course a western country arrested him.

Britain arresting people over internet stuff, now France.............seems like we are a whiff away from complete censorship.

Dangerous times.

All the governments of the world fancy what China have done to its people, forget about European values, China is the new shit

Friendly reminder, politics is strictly prohibited.

This is sort of like arresting the CEO of Ford because people bought his cars and drove them while drunk.

I read somewhere they are involved in child porn.
Yeah and I heard they also sacrifice little children for rituals.

Are we going to believe everything we hear, don't know for you but I'm 99% skeptic toward any news and especially random statements which one can find online.

you read somewhere? really and that makes it a fact that you should post? if you are in England I am offended and now you go to jail... lol

Sorry I don’t remember. I never care about these (Telegram, Tiktok, Facebook…) . Reading News by the headlines is my favourite pastime.

I don't use this type of media, its full of opinions, half-truths and downright lies all purporting to be facts.
there was a saying from the beginning of the 20th century that went..
there are three types of lie, they are Lies, damn lies and statistics, If the same people were quoting today it would be lies, damn lies and social media

Amen to that, I trust no media, not matter who is the owner and no matter which state or organization is their sponsor.
Media works for money and public influence and so truths are all relative in media and subjective.

I agree with you. I spent 30 years in fire and rescue. Been places and seen things only to have the news reports look nothing like what actually happened. I learned that when I was 18 and just got in. Never trusted media. Social media least of all.

Fake statistics are still well and alive today. Facebook's CEO also confessed that he was pressured by the government to censor many things. I think this story just broke within the last 24 hours although nothing really new to anyone who pays attention and is not governed by emotions.
