Hell no! My next computer will be Linux. I litrally joined this forum becuase I am bascially a lowkey Windows a refugee at this point, I am already very fed up with Windows antics but the final pisstake was the A.I fetish train. I have a problem though because I use specialised software that is Windows locked.Introducing Copilot+ PCs - The Official Microsoft Blog
An on-demand recording of our May 20 event is available. Today, at a special event on our new Microsoft campus, we introduced the world to a new category of Windows PCs designed for AI, Copilot+ PCs. Copilot+ PCs are the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever built. With powerful new...blogs.microsoft.com

Everything has it's alternative but it might not be as shiny as Windows equivalent, you just have to get use to them. What if you are stuck with specialised software?
I got upgraded to a Windows 11 laptop at work a while back. I disabled co-pilot via group policy as soon as it arrived. Just as I disabled Cortana before that. I have no use for it whatsoever!
same here, if I didnt put it there, i dont want it and I dont want Big A.I watching everything I do. I hate this stupid A.I goldrush If anyone here bothers with Twatter any more since Elon Musk rat got his grubby paws on it, the stuff that tech bros are saying is something short of delusional, devoid of any sense of reality, I actually think they are thick, they speak like anime villains, its just pathetic, they sound like they are 12 years old, any tech CEO who speaks like that, I dont touch their stuff, I dont support their product. Yesterday I found about about Open A.I spouting stupid crap like "A.I will kill creative jobs that should never have existed in the first place"I searched for a way to completely disable co-pilot as soon as it arrived via an update.
I eventually disabled it via group policy.
I have no idea whether copilot interacts with, or affects Linux installations.
If you install Linux as your only OS, i don’t think co-pilot will be able to affect it at all because it’s merely a component of the windows install. As soon as the partition containing windows is wiped and overwritten - Windows is gone.
So if you get a Windows 11 machine and install Linux over the top as the sole OS on the machine, co-Pilot should be completely removed along with Windows.
Dual boot - I have no idea!
Using WSL - it’s more likely that copilot will have hooks into / access to WSL. So it may affect Linux distros running in WSL. But I honestly have no idea.
I only grudgingly use Windows on the PCs that my employer issues me with, for work.
But completely disabling co-pilot doesn’t seem to have had any negative consequences for me so far.
I’ve also blocked the ads in the Lock Screen and the menus via group policy. I can’t remember exactly where I found the instructions, but again - it worked flawlessly.
I honestly don’t know what M$ are trying to do with co-pilot. I don’t want or need an AI to monitor my activity, suggest things, or hold my hand whilst I’m using my PC. It’s like clippy or Cortana all over again, but even more intrusive.
Maybe less tech savvy users will like it and use it, but it’s not for me. I don’t want it, or need it on any of the machines I work with.
At best, Co-pilot is yet another annoyance. At worst, it is more built-in malware/spyware and an extra security risk/attack vector. M$ software always has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.
On Windows, I always uninstall or disable components/services that I don’t want or need. And I try to use as much free/libre/open source software as I can, because I ultimately trust free-software more than I trust M$’s buggy bloatware.
I think I want to watch that film now
...i t may be that we have loved ones that we care about, that don't know any better spite our efforts to inform them, who simply choose to go with the flow.
Hell no! My next computer will be Linux.
I had already been thinking about Linux and had an installation drive. One morning I woke up to find more antics. Right then, my mind was made up. I booted into live Linux. That night, I decided that no matter how much I didn't know about Linux, even though I knew how to or would be able to find a way around the latest manipulation and could continue using Windows, I was done. The morning after that, Windows went out with the trash. Best decision I ever made. I haven't regretted diving head first into Linux once., I am already very fed up with Windows
Blender. I was an architecture student. I know how to use VIZ 3D, 3DS Max, you name it. Blender literally does exactly the same thing with a lot less bloat. The only diference is the file extension. There are programs out there to take care of that though. As I recall, you can't open CAD or DWG files, but that may have changed. I don't know if any of them are open source though.Wish there was an entire subsection dedicated to 3D artists and animators wanting to switch to Linux because I really want to meet others trying to do the same. I want to know which distro is better and whatever happens I will have to run Wine.
