How are you adding programs? Could you make a post here or a Sourceforge wiki page so that I can help and others in the future?

I will make a list of programs compiled and added to Anitaos. Thanks.

I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question but I've already looked through the other forums and couldn't find any help.

AnitaOS seems like the perfect OS for my old Compaq Presario 1200 laptop. In fact, I was able to successfully install it to the hard disk and it seems to run pretty good. My problem is that it doesn't recognize my USB wireless adapter (Edimax EW-7811Un). I tried doing the Autoprobe function through the entire list of included drivers. A lot of them seem to load but none of them recognize the adapter. This laptop does not have a wired ethernet adapter so I have no way of connecting to the internet. I do have a driver disk that came with the adapter that has linux drivers (RTL8192CU) on it but I can't figure out how to install them. It has a file called Makefile but when I try to run it as a command it says "Command not found". (It's probably obvious by now that I'm a Linux newbie).

Can someone give me some direction on how to install this driver?

I am not sure how helpful these two links are, but at least they give you something to start with.

Thank you for Highlighting this I should have included this tool ages ago in anitaos anyway
here is a tool from Puppy Linux that works with Anitaos called Frisbee that can improve Wireless capability Link below:

Iam Uploading these to anitaos site.
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/frisbee
Install these
Frisbee-beta-2.pet Frisbee-beta-2.pet
wpa_supplicant-0.6.9-i486.4X.pet wpa_supplicant-0.6.9-i486.4X.pet
dhcpcd-5.2.9-i486.pet

There is also this guide here please note the option to use windows drivers in this page - .inf files

Help available for Puppy Linux based distros here

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/index.php?f=31

While you at these forums it would be worthwhile joining and tell them which system you are using eg.
4.12 barebones or the 4.31 iso and if there is a driver available for your system.
Tell them your Kernel version using the uname -a command in terminal.

By the way the term makefile refers to a command used to compile drivers or programs

Here is an example if you want to compile your own driver here given using 4.12 using make

Wireless card Support and Anitaos

Some Wireless cards require drivers to be compiled for Linux. There are several options.

  1. Compile it from source code - drivers may have source code supplied on CD. There may of course be native drivers supplied on the CD that comes with your Wireless device. Check with manfacturer's website.

  2. As Anitaos is based on Puppy Linux - you may get binary drivers here at the Murga forums
    http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/index.php
You will need to register and tell them your using 4.12 or 4.31 iso and see if they have Wireless drivers there. I am unable to supply Wireless drivers apart from those that come natively with Anitos isos as there are so many new cards.

I apologise for this but the best support for this can be found at this forum above as there so many wireless devices to keep up with.

@Darren Hale , could you post a "to-do-list" for AnitaOS here on Linux.org or on Sourceforge so that I and others know what to do to contribute? I have uploaded some wallpapers on Sourceforge for AnitaOS, but I would like to contribute more.

1. Xmms Ultra - package updated to inculde all gtk1 libraries.

Job Vacancies for Anitaos as at 19-12-13

1. Programmer/Hacker to work on new Glib2 libraries for Anitaos and updated GTK2 - happy with glibc 2.10 at the moment - making sure compatability is kept with programs provided and not breaking JWM. This would require either a service pack or new iso's to be produced.
2. Someone to look at more wireless drivers for Anitaos bearing in mind the older kernels used for the iso's the Gpup and 4.12Barebones iso's - 2.6.25.16 and 4.31 Barebones iso - 2.6.30.
3. Any Wallpapers people would like to contribute.
4. Any submissions of programs to port from other distros welcomed.
5. Any custom made programs that people make themselves also welcome.

This is a general list item 1 being the post pending.

Please feel free to register interest here if you would like to contribute to the above or if you have other things you would like to contribute.

Thanks

Darren

Thanks for your support Devyn your wallpapers are fantastic.

I have posted a brief list of areas where people can contribute it is only short and pretty general but item 1 is the most needed at the moment.
