Summary
Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Flash Player for Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS. These updates address an important vulnerability in Adobe Flash Player 31.0.0.122 and earlier versions. Successful exploitation could lead to information disclosure.

This update resolves a information disclosure vulnerability in Adobe Flash Player for Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS. It is not known if this vulnerability was actively being used or what information is disclosed.

I note that there is an Adobe update included in the updates for Linux Mint 18.3 today (Wed, Nov 14 2018)

Hello Condobloke,

I haven't used Adobe Flash player for years.

Like me Adobe Flash player old and antiquated and just useless.:p:eek:o_O

This command will tell what's installed.

Bit complex....went beyond my paygrade real quick !

Might delete the lot and if it screws up...just Timeshift myself back to normality

I can tell you about 4 lines of it :D - Heimdall.

Samsung Galaxy phones had, perhaps still have, a packages called Kies (pron. "keys") you could use for connecting your phone to your computer for data transfer and for flashing the ROM, eg updating to a newer version of Android.

It was a PITA.

Odin was introduced as an easy alternative for Windozer users, and Heimdall for Linux/Mac.

Cheers

Hey Condobloke,

The commands worked on Antix 17.2 and Peppermint 8 so I don't know.

I removed the one command I don't want to be confusing other users.
It may not work with Linux Mint although I don't know why it wouldn't.

Here is my output on another Peppermint 8 computer.

thomas@Dell-OptiPlex-360 ~ $ dpkg -l | grep flash
ii flashplugin-installer 31.0.0.148ubuntu0.16.04.1
amd64 Adobe Flash Player plugin installer

ii pepperflashplugin-nonfree 1.8.2ubuntu1.1

....this has removed the plug ins in Firefox browser...Cool !

I will leave well alone from there. :)

Hey Condobloke,

Sometimes I think Synaptic Package Manager is the best way to install and remove software as it shows the packages to be removed and it does work 100%.

It also amazes me why certain commands work with one buntu based Linux distro and not on different buntu based Linux distro.

I guess there's enough difference in the source code / coding that makes a difference.

Anyhow glad you found success with the removal of Adobe Flash player.

And yes I agree with "I will leave well alone from there." :)

poorguy :)

OK had to prove to myself I wasn't losing it. :p:D

OK it does work and it is possible that in post #2 that I made a mistake and failed to copy and paste the full terminal command which would make it not work. :):(:oops:

dpkg -l | grep flash

sudo apt-get remove --purge adobe-flashplugin

I don't think I would assess whether you were losing it, Thomas.

I think I lost it before I ever had it. :(

ok...but.....perhaps a few unintended consequences here.....the line of icons immediately above this line of type which give the ability to bold, italic, link, image etc etc are no longer marked as such....pic below
SPPJVaG.png

So......does adobe have an effect there...or have i managed to disrupt something else ?

Or.....is this related to the linux.org site ...? All other sites I visit are ok

I think that's called a toolbar, Brian

Mine's OK.

Timeshift?

Wiz

toolbar whatever....the thingie across the top that holds the whatsits.....
problem solved.
A combination of the latest kernel update, and god only knows what
wound back to previous kernel, and the 'toolbar' is back

kernel crap up also screwed with my sound set up

Not sure if the removal of adobe plugins in synaptic manager also played a part, but all is good now

Hey Condobloke,

The only way removal of adobe flash player would or could affect your sound is if the flash player plugins were shared dependencies of other software for sound / audio devices.

Glad it is working again.

Update : Today the 'toolbar' icons above this line of type is the same as in post #11...see pic there

Ever so slightly pissed off today.

Update : Without ANY input from me....the icons in that toolbar are back.

Linux.org has been slow to load all of today, and part of yesterday.

All other sites are behaving normally....those sites include bleepingcomputer, linux.com, malwarebytes forum, linuxmint.com, facebook etc etc ad nauseum

Did you run over Buddha in a past life? :)
