I'm planning to switch to Linux as I am tired of the Windows system, who's only reason for existing nowadays is that people grew up using it and don't want to change. As for the command lines, which allow people to download and install new programs, I am wondering if there is risk of someone accidentally downloading malicious software by accidentally typing in the wrong commands, just like someone can do if they mis-type a website name?

Hi @linuxnow No, there aren't any risks. When you install/download sotfware from the command line, the source is a trusty one, verified for your distro of choice being Ubuntu, Debian , Arch or any other. Every distro has its own software repository where mainteiners team fix bugs, update code and check everything it's all right, otherwise it won't be released as long as they make sure the package or packages are in good shape, ready to download/install for the end user. However, most modern Linux distros have an "update/install app" which can do the hard work without you even ever having to open a terminal. I've been using Linux for quite some time now and never ever have had any virus scenarario like I used to in Windows. BTW, fwiw I don't use and never have used any antivirus software or anything of the sort, so instead of wasting resources on that my system use them in a better way. :) You might want to read here to get a better idea: https://www.networkworld.com/article/3305810/how-to-list-repositories-on-linux.html If you're planning on make the switch from Windows I suggest you familiarize with Linux. Visit sites like distrowatch, tecmint, Linux journal and of course https://www.linux.org. Download and read some books, here's a couple I find very usefull https://www.pdfdrive.com/linux-in-a-nutshell-6th-editionpdf-e18844861.html and https://www.pdfdrive.com/linux-all-in-one-for-dummies-4th-edition-e18772692.html Also, this is a good starting point https://www.edx.org/es/course/introduction-to-linux totally free of charge, well organized, interactive and very informative.

Hope this helps! :)
