1 TB hard drive 94% full (with only 270gb data on it)

Must be that cool, Tableland air :)

I have to run around and do a few things, will try to get back to this around lunchtime.

Regrets on the delay - having probs moving the posts, will check with Rob later, so let's deal with this here :)

....yet the snapshot itself is definitely on the 1tb seagate

Can you show us a screenie from the Seagate of that? We still on Sylvia Cinnamon?

If the simplest approach here is to nuke the lot and start afresh...I have no problem with that

I note that Timeshift retains some 'memory' even when uninstalled via synaptic

I'll slip over to my Sylvia Cinnamon and come back to you.

if you have domestic commitments there we can do this later/ron/tomorrow....

I am off to pick up Te.....back in 20

No I am good until a little before 7. :)

I note that Timeshift retains some 'memory' even when uninstalled via synaptic

Possibly Synaptic does not account for /etc/timeshift.json

This file contains the configuration for Timeshift and replaces over the top of itself each time used. It may be as little as 766 Bytes and the 30 lines or so can be read from your File Manager and opening with your text editor.

If you want to use the Timeshift uninstaller itself, it is

Code:
sudo timeshift uninstall

Of course that does not delete the snapshots, they are for manual deletion.

/var/log/timeshift will contain a number of entries.

I am off to pick up Te.....back in 20

Noted, say Hi for us ;), and buy her a cuppa before you plonk your arse back at the computer.

I have noted an anomaly in my logs, and am going to check it out.

Drum roll ... and the solution was?

Wiz

I used the terminal command as suggested...and to my surprise Timeshift still operated...clicked on its link and it still showed its main windows.....
So...I accessed it via synaptic and marked it for complete removal. That stopped the link operating.

Then, accessed /var/log/timeshift, and opened it as root....and deleted it....same for /etc/timeshift.json

Then accessed the snapshot folder on the seagate 1TB, opened it as root, and right clicked and selected delete for both snapshots. This process too approx 15 minutes to finish

I rebooted....Reinstalled Timeshift from Software manager
Followed t he 'wizard' through...set the 1TB as the Location and Rsync etc etc....set my desired schedule....I only keep 2 daily snapshots and the on demand snapshots.....

Created an on demand snapshot
I will observe tomorrow morning to ensure that the desired schedule is adhered to, and thats that !!!

Gotta go....drive my girl to Deepwater

Took a peek today and the scheduling is working as desired.
