Ah you're faster typing than me, ha, ha. Is there another option in the preferences Scan Source other than your printer name? If there is try that one.

    Epson Scanners XP-445 and SX-435W

I know what you mean by the "few extra steps" needed in Linux, I'm a new Linux user too, it took me a few weeks of frustration to get full functionality on my printer. Hope you get it running the way you want.

    Epson Scanners XP-445 and SX-435W

I just noticed that in a post you said you got the scanner to work with Imagescan but not Simplescan, have you tried going to "preferences" in Simplescan and then changing the "Scan Source"? That's what I did to get Simplescan to work.

    Epson Scanners XP-445 and SX-435W

That is very weird, where are you getting the PDF Japanese file from? It's certainly not the link I posted. Did you download the driver from this page - http://support.epson.net/linux/en/imagescanv3.php Once you download the version for your Linux distro you can click on the downloaded file and...

    Epson Scanners XP-445 and SX-435W

I don't understand why you are seeing Japanese, I just tried the link in my post and it goes to Epson's download page in English not Japanese. Here are Epson's instructions on how to install the driver: http://download.ebz.epson.net/man/linux/imagescanv3_e.html#sec6-1

    Command Question

Thanks, I solved my problem with this command: sudo chown -R vnstat:vnstat /var/lib/vnstat Is it safer? I got it from the unbuntu website. I think it means that ownership of the file has been switched to vnstat, so now it's able to write to the file and display bandwidth use.

    Command Question

Thanks for that info. So would you say it's safe to try that command out and see if it solves my problem? I got it from https://aspratyush.wordpress.com/tag/vnstat-not-enough-data-available-yet/

    Command Question

What does $ sudo chmod a+rw -R /var/lib/vnstat/* do? I came across it while trying to figure out how to get vnstat to record bandwidth usage for my broadband connection. Since yesterday it keeps telling me "Not enough data available yet". I think for some reason it's not writing the bandwidth to...

    Vnstat Bandwidth Monitor

Can anyone tell me how I can get Vnstat to detect and record my broadband bandwidth usage? It detects and records my wifi but not the broadband, I don't know why.

    Saving Snapshots

Thanks Don't know what you mean by "how do I plan to access the snapshots if I need to restore from the stick"? Wouldn't it be by accessing the stick? I haven't used or installed Timeshift yet, have only been reading about it, is there something I'm missing?
