I got the Mint working again by typing in at the initramfs promt fsck /dev/sda1 because this was my root directory That seemed to fix it when I said yes to all the repairs BUT it is the computer going to keep doing this?? Julie

The only other thing I havent tried over the course of 4 days was to reinstall ubuntu, I am beginning think this computer HP will just not run Linux mint 19.1 BUT there is no guarantee that Ubuntu will even install now.

I I did test all the ports and if that is the problem, they are all bad. I also attempted the DVD install it also did not work :(

I created a new .iso file on a flashdrive using Rosa image maker I tried installing on the computer and now i get this error the following file did not match the source copy on CD/DVD /target/usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so

I looked in the bios and this computer is so old it is not eufi and there is no option to accidently turn on that mode so that would not be my problem

Yes that might be a possibility because I was in the bios to fix the boot mode to boot the Usb first There is a good chance I might have change that setting

I used ntfs but I knew when I put Linux on it , it would reformat it to whatever for the install

ok I will redownload but I already did that and checked it by installing on a different computer and it installed without a problem. I used Rufus to make the flash drive but I will now go and download rosa and try again Julie
