    No idea what's going on but I now have a line out option! I had the pop install usb so tried the demo and sound going to the speakers OK. Re-booted in to Pop and the line out option is there!

    Yes, I have external speakers plugged in to the line out on my PC. In windows (I'm dual-booting) the sound goes to the speakers with an option to go to the monitor. But only one option in Pop, the monitor speakers.

    Grub Install Failed.

    Just came across your solution, I've been trying to dual-boot with windows 10 for a few weeks! Same error and not connecting to the internet solved it. I chose the something else as I already had mint installed though it wouldn't boot. A big thank you.
