    I'm stuck in a corner...

Thanks. I had tried some of that but there were a couple of great nuggets that I hadn't thought of.

    I'm stuck in a corner...

...of my own making. While trying to dual boot with Deepin and Windows 10 I find that I can no longer log in to Win10. Since Deepin was working well I thought the best way to recover was to burn an .iso to a USB. I was absolutely sure that I had chosen the correct USB to format. By now you know...

And, I have a 64gb usb stick. I know I can install Linux on it, but should I?

OK, impressions as I continue to play. So far it seems that the command line comes into play alot. I'm not a programmer, so is the command line something that is really important to me? I'm trained to just clickon things. Can I get by with that and later concentrate on the command line?

Oh, sorry about the protocol thing. I know to do that. Just not thinking. Gone back and liked everyone

I've installed the MATE edition but, honestly, I was hoping for something with a bit more beauty. Hard to define that, I know. Visual beauty, I suppose. But it seems that Linux is so adjustable that I'm sure I'll find what I'm looking for. My impatience is showing, isn't it? So here's another...

Hard to tell you how much I appreciate all this advice you guys have given me. I really enjoy jumping into new things so I feel that I am rapidly gathering a good pace. Truth-be-told, I am a bit impatient in almost anything I do. Here's my usual strategy: First, I find an interest, then play...

Yes, it gives me a chance to audition other disros, but which ones? I like intuitive, beautiful interfaces and speed. Complexity, not so much! Certainly some are relevant for today but which ones are relics? Or are they ALL relevant.

Yeah, all is well. Installed firewall per your instructions. Just playing around now. I'll be clicking on tutorials for a while as I try to get comfortable with the new system. I think this will be easier if I consider it a hobby instead of something mandatory. More fun that way. Curiosities...

Sorry Wiz, but your last message seems to be garbled on my end. I've lost the thread.

Oh, sorry,,,,I'm going with Virtualbox for now. My earlier posts may have been a bit misleading. I can always delete everything with just a few keystrokes and start over.

Thanks for the advice. I have a Mint19 .iso sitting in front of me. I'm starting the install now! I think I'll have to understand that there's a learning curve to all of this. In other words, I'll just have to "deal with it".:)

I'm not going to investigate the Thinkpad idea again. It's history. Also giving up on the R31/Windows 10 thing.

I'll check on the UEFI thing. If I have the option for UEFI should I choose it? Or will that REALLY mess things up? Current BIOS is A06. Folks on the internet swear they are easily running Win 10 on an R3 like mine. But when I try to install, it gets to about 95% then freezes. I got it to...

It's OK to laugh about the Thinkpad. Just a playful train of thought passing through, then disappearing up the tracks. My main job is to get Linux up and running and not being distracted. The Thinkpad has XP on it now and connects to the net, so I'll just use it for emergencies. What would be...

I have an old IBM Thinkpad R31 lying around. I don't suppose there's a version of Linux that will make it useful again, is there?

G'day, Chris...Greetings from the Heartland of America...Australia, you say? Never heard of it. It must be on a map somewhere. I'll look it up! Well, obviously I'm awake even though it's after 4AM here. BTW, I have relatives in Perth. Never met them, though. Been using both Firefox and...

Thanks to all for tolerating my rant last night. So today I've been following the links that were suggested and a few things are clearer now. But clear doesn't mean that the fog has lifted entirely. So a couple of questions in no particular order: First, Should I just set up a partition and get...
