New life for an old machine

Mom told me that there were three things I should never do: 1. Run into burning buildings 2. Jump out of perfectly good airframes 3. Go out on ships that were designed to sink. I tried 1, and after a while I concluded that mom was correct, so I did the paramedic thing instead. :pNyuk, Nyuk...

    O/S2 Going down.

I worked on a great many robots that ran OS/2. It was sometimes "Challenging" to get them to communicate on a Windows network. Then the manufacturers all went to Win xp and up. The interesting thing is that all the modules in those newer machines all spoke Linux over their internal networks...

    Financial spreadsheet

Yeah, That is the good thing about it, only use what you need, and with no password, it can be modified to your taste. You know, add a little whipped cream or other garnishments, or take it straight up, or even on the rocks. NYUK NYUK What really burned my buns about the ads, was when I was...

    Cogent Computer Systems CSB703 / CSB733 SBC

A basic Stamp would work for that gate also, just add an external RF module and there you have it! If you use a WIFI module, you may be able to trigger the gate with your phone or tablet.

    Financial spreadsheet

In an earlier thread, I mentioned that I use a spreadsheet to keep track of my finances. I started building it in Excel 2000, and have been upgrading it over many years. The last upgrade I did was to add the SUMIFS command to automate a lot of the functions. That is when I found out that...

Setting up Quicken 6 for DOS in DOSEMU on a USB Mint Cinnamon SSD, with USB backup capability.

Carlin was funny for most of his time on stage, but toward the end his shows were just a long rant about the government. My favorite Carlin theme was Al Sleet, the hippy dippy weatherman! And I really enjoyed Cheech and Chong's "Pedro and the man"

Setting up Quicken 6 for DOS in DOSEMU on a USB Mint Cinnamon SSD, with USB backup capability.

Yeah, when I started this project, She wasn't sure if she used dosbox, or DOSEMU, but when I showed them both to her, she remembered DOSEMU was the one that looked like what she had. Fortunately, she had the backups on the USB thumb drive, so it was a matter of setting up the program and...

Setting up Quicken 6 for DOS in DOSEMU on a USB Mint Cinnamon SSD, with USB backup capability.

Ah yes, good old double entry bookkeeping, I remember it well. I took the required 2 semesters of accounting in College, and actually enjoyed it! I don't think that I could pry that Quicken6 drive out of her hands, if my life depended on it. She finds a program that she likes, and will not...
