Video Playback Issues After Latest Updates

....and in an odd twist of events, it just fixed itself. I did nothing to cause it or fix it. However, I'd still like to know why it happened.

Video Playback Issues After Latest Updates

After updating last night, any video I play now is distorted and echoes, no matter which player I use. Dragon Player, VLC, and videos in browsers all have the same results. Is this a known issue? My System: Operating System: Fedora Linux 37 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.2 KDE Frameworks Version...

    Bluetooth connection problems

I've never had any of my several Bluetooth devices connect as of yet. This is a new build, but everything Mint was installed without issue. I don't know if there is a conflicting plugin, or a missing part of the program, but I have had no luck getting anything to be acknowledged whenever I...

    Bluetooth connection problems

Does anyone know what steps to take to get Mint to acknowledge Bluetooth devices? I've heard uninstalling all Bluetooth-related packages and reinstalling them sometimes works, but I can't figure out how to make that effective. My setup: System: Kernel: 5.15.0-58-generic x86_64 bits: 64...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Done. Thanks to you, @Lord Boltar , @kc1di , et al. for the help. It is greatly appreciated as I make the permanent move to Linux. BTW: Timeshift was a step I took during initial installation, so I'm all set there. :) Thanks again!

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

HOLD EVERYTHING! I just got this working. Haaa...llelujah For a laugh, I changed the grub file to its default 800x600 and commented out that line. I thought if I can get showing on the TV again I can at least see if the display settings are still greyed out. I then remembered that if I...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Good point. Much to my chagrin, this TV only has HDMI as a connection. (Three of them, to be more accurate.) On the other hand, my GPU has one HDMI port, but three display ports.

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Once I managed to get the resolutions list to appear via the videoinfo command, I got so excited that this was actually one of the first things I did. However, I still got the "Out of memory" error on bootup when I switched to the larger monitor. The result of this command is: HDMI-0 I may...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

@wizardfromoz I'm certainly hoping for the best. What makes me optimistic is that the screen resolution I'm hoping to display at is a lot smaller than my GPU's maximum output. According to GeForce's specs for my video card, the maximum digital resolution is 7680 x 4320. I'm only shooting for...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

@wizardfromoz : It worked! (The GRUB menu results, that is.) Right, here's what returned from videoinfo: Adapter `EFI GOP driver': *0x000 3840 x 2160 x 32 (15360) Direct color, mask: 8/8/8/8 pos: 16/8/0/24 There are about thirteen more listings, but I'm excited about the first one with the...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Learning curve, indeed! 1. Should I turn off secure boot? I think I can find it. It's probably in the advance settings, but I'll see. 2. When I enter xrandr in a terminal, here's what I get: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 1680 x 1050, current 1680 x...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Last question answer: my GPU is MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 2X 8G OC LHR NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6. I've followed the instructions per the link you shared. It's a bit confusing because the author first says to run the hwinfo command (which I did), and adds that if that doesn't work, to use...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Using Lord Boltar's advice, I've actuallt managed to get something to show on the monitor, so we are making progress. However, I realized the aspect ratio is off. I figure it's because the grub file is set to 640x480, so I changed it to read the aspect ratio of my television monitor -- which is...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

I finally found the grub file, but it's not letting me save changes. Is there a way to bypass that so I can test your suggestion?

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Thanks. I discovered that the Nvidia driver is the recommended (latest) driver and it is being used. I think I originally had it as Nouveau, but that's been changed.

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Thanks, LB. I actually saw that thread yesterday. Despite much of it going over my head, I did see they were referring to a number of different distros and I didn't think much of it could help. I did attempt to apply some of what was in reply #142, but to no avail.

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

Thank you for your info. Full disclosure: I'm quite new to Linux as a whole, so I'm not sure how I can remedy this problem. As I said, this is a new build (my first). After installing Mint and starting for the first time, the OS ran me through several driver updates, stating that the Nouveau...

    Display Issues [SOLVED]

I installed Mint on a brand new build, the latest version as of this writing. I moved to a 43" television for my computer monitor, but when I booted up I got the "out of memory" error message and the OS wouldn't load. After searching for solutions, it appears it has to do with the default...
