XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

One thing I have noticed after running this setup exclusively for the last 14 months is that you can copy from debian linux into android(copy/paste), but you cannot paste from Android into Linux. I thought it would be the other way around, but theres another weird on for you. I guess I'm lucky...

It's time for a poll. How long have you used Linux?

I know, I almost forgot about Wubi myself. I use debian and ubuntu quite a bit. I was in the Army for 6 years (active duty) and 1 year in the Army National Guard. I was an Infantryman for 4 years, and then I reclassed to a Medic for my last three years. I loved every minute of it, and count...

It's time for a poll. How long have you used Linux?

The first Distro I installed was Ubuntu. I don't know if you guys remember Wubi. It was a windows installer that install Ubuntu on your computer without the need to partition your hard drive. You just ran the .exe and rebooted the PC. The boot menu would come up and you would select Windows XP...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

One thing I've noticed that makes a big difference as far as functionality is starting XFCE4 in Termux. Thats how I did it originally, but I forgot how to do it that way, and ended up only being able to start XFCE4 once Ive routed in with MultiVNC. This limits most of the functionality of the...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

The AKG Headphones that come with the Galaxy Note 9 have functional buttons on them (volume up/down and a center button that does different things depending on what app your in). It works with standard Android funtions and customized Samsung functions. When I press these three buttons in Debian...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

I've ran almost every distro on this Note 9 with every desktop environment but gnome (but I could run gnome). There is another product called AnLinux, that will let you run CentOS, OpenSuse, and some other really strange operating systems too, but I've only ran CentOS and OpenSuse with it...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

Install F-Droid from Play Store Use F-Droid to install Termux and Termux API (You cannot use the play store version of Termux) Install MultiVNC (because it works with Samsung Dex) download Andronix ( This will populate your clipboard with all of the code that you'll paste into Termux) Depending...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

i was able to get into the pavucontrol settings, but I had very few options in there.[Advanced Options was grayed out]. Not like when you run it on a desktop, and since Im on a phone, and vlc routed from android into debian, it doesn't have the option to do it. But Im glad you brought that up...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

You are right, it fixed the stability issue, but I still have no sound in Chromium. I have sound in Firefox, VLC, and Parole media Player. Sound works out of the headphone jack, HDMI, and bluetooth. All of the sound is being handled by Android.

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

Update; I've been using this setup as my primary computer, and it pretty much can do most things a Windows X86 machine can do(minus the DirectX, GPU accelerated, CPU accelerated tasks), However, it is very fast. One thing that I've noticed is that sound does not work in chromium. Cromium often...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

Thanks for your patience. I am starting to get used to the site, and frankly I am not a forum master by any means. Linux is just such an important and fun, free OS that I had to get involved with this forum. I also wanted to mention another Android program that is similar to Andronix, but has...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

Yeah, I have 128 GB plus the SD Card, which is 32 GB. There are ways to uninstall everything through the Termux Command Line Interface[If you want to keep some settings the way they are]. When I want to try out a new distro, all I do is open up Termux App Info in Android and clear both "Data"...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

I used Debian the first time with XFCE4, Arch Linux with XFCE4 the second time, and now I have Ubuntu with XFCE4. I've tried the LXDE and LXQT environments too, just to check them out. Andronix makes it easy to use Termux to install numerous distros, and environments. I have not tried Gnome. It...

XFCE4 running on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 [ Works fine with Dex ]

ALSO: I installed ubuntu on my Pixel 7 XFCE4 gui. Termux and Andronix are pretty much all you need. Then the VNC app. You can use any of the VNC apps really because you are not dealing with DEX. The Crappy part is that you are using a desktop os on a touchscreen and its pretty limited. There may...
