    What is remastering Linux?

Aren't all distros the same? Meaning aren't they all comprised of the same linux kernel with the differences being the particular software packages bundled with the kernel? If so, then, wouldn't a remastered distro actually be a new distro?

Zim headers have turned into a gray that is hard to see

In my /usr/share/zim/style.conf file the colors are #4e9a06. But in my ~/.config/zim/style.conf file the colors are #483d3d. Apparently the /usr/share/zim/style.conf file has the default color and ~/.config/zim/ has a custom color. Somehow ~/.config/zim/ got edited...and I didn't do it. I wonder...

Zim headers have turned into a gray that is hard to see

HOLD THE BUS!!! All you have to do is go to ~/.config/zim/style.conf and edit the color for the headers to want. Save the file. Then close your zim program and reopen it. Hey, I learned something.

Zim headers have turned into a gray that is hard to see

I use back-in-time. I don't have backup far enough back to locate a change. I am attempting to solve this at https://github.com/zim-desktop-wiki/zim-desktop-wiki/issues/480. I edited /usr/share/zim/style.conf but that didn't work. Now I think I have to copy that file to ~/.config/zim/ but I am...

    I did something bad

If you do not have a spare hard drive go get one. Its an important tool that you will use over and over. For one thing it is where you will store your future backups. You need a spare hard drive/SSD and you need a live dvd. Do you have a live dvd? If you want to find out, unplug your hard drive...

    I did something bad

I don't have time to explain it all right now but the dvd you installed your operating system with is a live dvd. When you load the dvd you should see a choice of "install linux" or "try linux". You would choose "try". That will start the operating system ON THE DVD and then you can access your...

    I did something bad

Stop panicking. It takes people a while to see your post. First thing I would do is load up a live dvd, access your glitched system and transfer your /home files to another partition or another hard drive for safe keeping. That way if you don't find a solution you can just reinstall and then...

Report error that occurs during startup

Sometimes an error occurs during system startup and then a window pops up saying "an error occurred. Do you want to report it? Yes or No". When this occurs and I choose to report it, how is the message sent, where is it sent to and what happens as a result of me sending the message?

Is there a better alternative to ZIM?

I've been using Zim for a few year to keep all my notes, etc. I've got a mountain of stuff saved. I am always rearranging and trying new ways of organizing my notes for easier and better searching. But I still end up with more clutter than I hope for. I love Zim but often wonder if anyone has...

    Partion related query.

Make a separate /Home. It is so easy there is no excuse not to. Also, /Home serves a completely separate purpose than everything else. It is good to have it set aside. If you break /Home it can be restored without messing with /. If you break / your /Home is safe. Just do it. You will never wish...

Solved How do you backup your system configuration?

After years of not doing backups, because I let myself be confused by every-ones picky-uny requirements for backing up only specific files and not wanting to take any effort or time to do backups or being concerned with "should I do full, incremental or differential backups", I settled on doing...
