NOOB I want to run WinXP only in VIRTUALBOX

Virtualbox is a sandbox. Malware is not supposed to get in, or out, generally. Mac is also supposed to be somewhat close to invulnerable in itself. The only way Malware could ever have a chance to enter your XP vm is if it's connected to the network, and it shouldn't be, since it's so internet...

NOOB I want to run WinXP only in VIRTUALBOX

You could more easily install Virtualbox on Windows 10 and run Windows XP there. I have a 32 bit XP vm and a 64 bit XP vm on my Windows 10 with desktop shortcuts that start them. But if it must be on top of Linux, it could be pretty much any Ubuntu based/Debian based/Red Hat based distribution...

Retro Linux game disk - which distro?

Yes it must be 32 bit. My 98 wouldn't even read 64 bit files. I read up a little more, what I see here are mostly .tar and .gtk, which are apparently compatible with both Debian and Slackware. I think this is why it just says Linux, both major distributions at the time supported it. So now the...

Retro Linux game disk - which distro?

Ok I popped it in and they put in a nice html message knowing people would put it in Windows, complete with a link to this site lol. So, I looked up the extensions I see here, but I'm still not sure...

Ubuntu Cinnamon is now an official Ubuntu flavor...

I too am partial to Cinnamon, I think it's the best as far as GUI desktop purposes are concerned. Makes sense to have it on Ubuntu, I never liked Gnome

Retro Linux game disk - which distro?

I have here this original '99 copy of Heretic II "for Linux". Nowhere on the box or disc mentions what distro they meant it for, and I couldn't find anything about it online. I'm guessing they meant either early Debian or early Slackware, I think those were the prominent, if not almost only...

    (Solved) Problem updating Ubuntu-based Mint

Thank you very much for the prompt reply! Ok so I updated with that command in the terminal and it seems everything updated smoothly with no fails or errors. Does this mean the GUI updater is currently broken since it's latest update? I guess I will just use the terminal then

    (Solved) Problem updating Ubuntu-based Mint

Hello, I am running Mint 20.3 Cinnamon (ubuntu-based) on a Lenovo B590 as my main laptop since some time. Updating the system never used to be a problem, but more recently every time I try to update it fails to download some of the most important basic updates. I am still somewhat new to Linux...

I want to know if there are different ways to install LINUX on a Lenovo T420

No you don't have to redo, it does exactly the same with me on my computer every time I turn it on for a few seconds, I think it's just figuring out how to run on your system before it starts, as long as it runs perfectly you're good to go

Complicated problem - All linux distros freeze, briefly run sluggish, and some cannot be installed (INFO provided) [Expert needed]

Hi. Though this may sound unlikely, it could be the crazy coincidence that your hard drive went bad between now and the last time you used windows. Might be worth trying a different hard drive, if you can. Or trying running windows on it again for a while and see if it freezes

I want to know if there are different ways to install LINUX on a Lenovo T420

ok this is a little embarrasing, but I actually went and found a couple usb sticks that I tried to boot from when I first installed this a couple years ago, and I actually didn't make them bootable, it's just the iso file copied straight on the stick, no wonder it didn't work lol. I guess a less...

I want to know if there are different ways to install LINUX on a Lenovo T420

I don't think the lack of label is the problem, but yes an easy way to assign a label to something is using the Windows Disk Managment utility. But if the OP doesn't have Windows then this doesn't help of course. It should already have some default name from it's firmware, so that might be an...

I want to know if there are different ways to install LINUX on a Lenovo T420

I have installed Linux Mint on a few old Lenovo laptops and I have never been able to do it via the bootable usb method, I don't know what the problem with that was, but this is how I always do it now: I download the Linux Mint iso from the official website, making sure that it's 32-bit for a...
