Where is history of deleted files?

Actually, I figured out my wrongdoing. I had the wrong syntax for rm, so it deleted all files in the present folder, which happend to be the Desktop folder.

Where is history of deleted files?

Yes I remember checking the parameters for rm to see if there was any "don't delete, send to trash bin" option, but in the Linux jungle I forget what I do occasionally  Anyway, I was thinking the journaling system of the ext4 file system kept records somewhere by itself. Not sure how...

Where is history of deleted files?

I've made a little script that cleans up some files that I run manually. Anyway, I added a few "rm"-lines to remove files from a couple of folders. When I ran the script, those files were deleted but I lost more in the process. For instance, my desktop is now empty (which means I even lost the...

Asked to import PGP key during Brave upgrade

Thanks! I think you solved it for me. Only I had to use keys.gnupg.net instead since it couldn't be found on the other keyserver. Now it's working in a terminal. It's downloading a huge file as we speak, around 30 GB which seems a bit weird but at least I got past the key errors. I will stay...

Asked to import PGP key during Brave upgrade

Thanks for trying to help me. Yes, I looked inside the PKGBUILD script during upgrade and it included these two lines: validpgpkeys=('A66D805F7C9329B4C5D82767CCC4F07FAC641EFF') # "Daniel Stone <[email protected]>" validpgpkeys+=('3BB639E56F861FA2E86505690FDD682D974CA72A') # "Matt Turner...

Asked to import PGP key during Brave upgrade

Thank you! So if the key can be found on the public key server, it should be safe to add? Sorry if my questions are stupid. I'm so used to digitally signed certificates from Windows.

Asked to import PGP key during Brave upgrade

I'm on Manjaro, and I was notified Brave needs to be updated. It's from the AUR repository. While upgrading, I get a popup with this text: The PGP key A66D805F7C9329B4C5D82767CCC4F07FAC641EFF is needed to verify python2-xcb-proto source files. Trust Daniel Stone <[email protected]> and...

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

Hi mr. Wizard. I'm sorry I messed up my post, Timeshift and Backintime should switch places (I will edit it). Nevertheless I just read your thread about Timeshift so I set it up anyway. I guess it can't hurt to back up the system files after all. On a side note, I chose Btrfs when i reformatted...

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

Thanks for your suggestions, it's really appreciated. I've tried backintime Timeshift but frankly I don't care about the system files for now since I don't mind reinstalling the Linux distro if needed. Timeshift Backintime however seems really potent. I haven't figured out how to make it work...

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

Greetings mr. Charlie and thanks for your participation. And yes, I've tried it but if I understand correctly it only creates snapshots of the files locally? I'm looking at some different options but I might resort to rsync/cron.

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

What backup would I use in Linux Mint? And would that be simpler than any other Linux distro? Please elaborate. (I did try Linux Mint for a week but it wasn't for me.) Trying to figure out Borg now. Maybe setup a Borg server on a Raspberry Pi and connect a drive to it. Sounds like a fun...

Can I use Windows alongside Linux

I'm also a new Linux user, and I dual boot Windows and Linux since I need Autocad for my studies. It works fine, but I've read that Windows update occasionally overwrites the boot loader which makes it hard to find Linux unless you manually fix it. Most distros I've tried will fix the dual boot...

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

Sorry for spamming this thread, but I ended up using my NAS admin account to SSH into the NAS although it doesn't feel quite right. So now I have a simple backup solution although it's gonna get messy to clean up since it just adds files incrementally if I understand correctly. I can't help but...

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

I'm not sure I follow you. My plan is to automate the backup as much as possible so I don't even need to think about it. Problem is I don't know anything about ssh, cron, rsync, NAS permissions and so on... However, I've now learnt to create cronjobs, and I think I can handle rsync. I've...

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

Thank you for your advice. It seems I need to read up on cron first to make this work. Most of those programs seem to be sync oriented and after a lot of tinkering I managed to get resilio sync up and running. I will give Grsync a shot as well.

    Easy file/folder backup for beginner

Hey everyone! I'm a new Linux user. After some distro hopping I ended up on POP OS. I'm trying to get rid of Windows altogether but I still lack a backup solution. I've searched extensively and found lots of alternatives, but most seem too complex to install or are to difficult to use. Right now...
