Would you mind giving an example of this? I tried adding non-free to my sources.list and my update gave errors about duplicate entries

Issues with Debian 12 sources.list file : RESOLVED

Yeah there was something wrong with my connection. I was just about to post an update UPDATE: I disabled my VPN and tried updating through the discover app instead, the connection was really slow, but eventually it updated all the firmware and everything seems to be back to normal

Issues with Debian 12 sources.list file : RESOLVED

I recently upgraded from Bullseye to Bookworm via the terminal, and it went smoothly for the most part, however I'm getting an error when I try to 'sudo apt update' , and instructions have been somewhat unclear on how to fix the change from non-free to non-free-firmware. So far my sources.list...

After upgrading from Debian 11 to Debian 12, my sudo apt update is giving me errors. Is there an example of a proper default sources.list file that I can use for Debian 12?

Different signal commands in the System Monitor

In the system monitor process table, it gives you the option to right-click on any running process, which brings up a menu with the option "Send Signal". Can you please explain the differences in functionality between the signal options Hangup (HUP), Interrupt (INT), Terminate (TERM), and Kill...

Recording system audio with Audacity and Pulseaudio

I'm currently using Debian 11 with KDE plasma desktop, and while using the appimage version of audacity, I can't seem to configure it to record system audio, or in other words, I'd like to be able to record any audio playing through my soundcard. From the online documentation, it tells me to...

    Updates for Debian 11 Bullseye

I uncommented the last line in the sources.list to see if that was the issue, but no difference really, still says everything is up to date:

    Updates for Debian 11 Bullseye

Even though the OS is running fine, I did find it peculiar that there were no apt updates since I installed the OS on 9-28, and even then when I tried to update after a fresh install, apt said that everything was up to date. This is the first distro I've used (including other debian versions)...

OH, lol, yeah I just installed Debian 11 with plasma desktop, though before that I was using Pop OS 22.04, so I had that version number on repeat by mistake

    Best installation practices

I've noticed recently that many times when I'm installing software with apt, the installation instructs me to first add the app's key and then update and install, which is fine and makes sense but then I'll often get the message that 'apt-key' is deprecated when installing this way, sometimes...

Installing PHP and Composure for Laravel framework

Update2: Despite php not being able to locate the openssl.so file, Composer still installed this time around, because the php.ini had the option enabled I'm assuming. And from there, Laravel installed fine afterwards. Afterwards, I commented the "extension=openssl" line in the php.ini file...

Installing PHP and Composure for Laravel framework

Update: Currently running Lubuntu 22.04, and have php installed via "sudo apt install php8.1" and "sudo apt install php8.1-dev". I've got OpenSSL 3.0.2. Per recommendation, I've edited all the php.ini files to un-comment the line where "extension=openssl" And now, any time I run a php script...

Installing PHP and Composure for Laravel framework

I've tried in two distros now and ran into the same roadblock, but when I'm installing the necessary components to start building with Laravel, I get a message about needing to enable openssl in PHP, or that I should "recompile PHP with --with-openssl option". From what I was able to find...
