[Solved] Manjaro KDE boots to black screen after updates

Yes, my guess is nvidia drivers because after boot the screen switched off until I opened TTY.

[Solved] Manjaro KDE boots to black screen after updates

Found the text, @Fanboi but I see 5 places for it. Looks like 2 for each kernel installed + 1 for Manjaro. Here's what I currently see there for each instance of that text: linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.10-x86_64 root=UUID=c13b38e0-636f-486d-a482-7b4398f5bf63 rw quiet apparmor=1 security=apparmor...

[Solved] Manjaro KDE boots to black screen after updates

Hi @wizardfromoz ! I do have 2 SSD drives, an NVMe and SATA both. I think that's what you were pointing to. :) Yes, made some progress but still trying to get the DE to start at boot, currently have to TTY after boot and use startx /usr/bin/startplasma-x11 each time and not yet sure why.

[Solved] Manjaro KDE boots to black screen after updates

Hello! First, for sake of transparency I posted this early today on the Manjaro forums, but so far only views and no replies. Unfortunately, I can't seem to fix this and that means I'm getting no work done today. :D After updating today, I can only boot into a black screen. I am currently in...

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

Thank you everyone for the sensible help, I appreciate this community and I just got here! While gaming yesterday, it didnt shut down but the power supply (it's a laptop) was quite a lot hotter than when working on less graphic intense tasks. Is it normal that a laptop power supply should be...

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

Yeah that's pretty cool. Haven't looked for those where I live but I'm sure I could find something like it, I see that one has a North America plug and I'll be back there next month anyway.

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

This served as a reminder today. I was at work and had my laptop plugged in there with virtually no heat coming from the power supply at all. I thought perhaps the power strip at home is a culprit. Testing this theory, I have it plugged into the wall instead of the strip now and power supply is...

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

Definitely a sudden, hard power off preceded by some video lag/freeze, but temperature well within normal. #9: As far as I can tell, every possible update I can find is done.

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

Hasn't shut down yet, but it's quite random. Sometimes it happens 2 or 3 times in an hour, sometimes not for an entire day. It's just been a weird one to track down.

Installing a new distro while keeping /home partition

I have my /home on a separate drive and would like to install a different distro while keeping /home intact. I saw this post but wonder, will this work going from a Gnome DE to KDE, and from a Debian base (Pop) to Arch (Manjaro), as long as I'm making the edits from apt to pacman? Edit: This is...

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

I could be able to do that with my father in law's help, he's an electrician and has all that stuff. I'll see him next month, but until then I'll go with the power supply heat indicator. :p

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

So far it's only happened during play, and has happened with more than one game so that was easy to rule out. :) If power supply, do you mean the unit that plugs into the wall or something internal?

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

It's good to eliminate the obvious, otherwise I tend to get lost in chasing what-ifs. :) It is a full shutdown, as if power was suddenly cut. Possible it could be a drop into hibernate or something, but all lights (power button, keyboard, screen) are suddenly off and no mouse or keyboard...

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

True, balanced is default, and after a restart it reverts back to balanced lol! It's on performance now, I'll fire up some games in a while and see if it shuts down again.

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

It is Pop_OS at the moment, yes. I'll change that setting and restart, but the issue did occur several times on Fedora which is how I landed on Pop.

    Troubleshooting random system shutdowns

Hello! I've asked in a few different communities and while most are helpful, the results have been really limited. I should say first that I've been using Linux for about 6 years, but to troubleshoot deeply or to understand logs is beyond my ability. My laptop has been randomly shutting down...
