This is more less an academic , hence no real answer expected , question.
I have been experimenting AKA writing a low level C++ code to gain better understanding of how Bluetooth works.
i am making some progress with my code, however, I was using my OS - Ubuntu (21.04) for verification...
So my error was to try change ownership of device .
The /dev/sdi1 was mounted , but I did not use correct procedure.
Now it works just fine and here is the entry in fstab, I did
not put it there. So it should mount on boot.
Since the reason forr having this USB is to have a storage of...
I have used the following to change ownership from "root" to "qw"
[email protected]:~$ sudo chown qw: /dev/sdi1
I received no error, however, file manager ( Ubuntu 21.04) still reports the owner as "root" .
What am I doing wrong ?
I really appreciate all your contributions, with an exception of comment on my "attitude" and other comment which IMHO belong to social media and not in forum like this.
There is no need starting with " turn the power on..." but it would be nice to comment / explain stuff.
OK, let's forget the chown...
and RE-READ the OP , including the part about gparted
it is the IDE who wants to save the current program
the device , USB in this case in not know until the IDE needs to save it
there is no "mkdir" - it is hidden in IDE...
Yes . lsusb shows it , the ownership is...
I can use gparted to add / format etc. new USB stick. I used to use "disks" to mount it, but having an issues installing in ....
BUT - when I use C++ IDE to build an new program on this USB I cannot "create directory" .
I must be missing permissions and perhaps ownership...
Is there a...
OK, no need to cry over spilled milk - I am after a solution - rehashing / speculating what MAY have caused the problem is now pointless.
But I need to have a better reason then just "try it , it won't hurt.
As I said before , I am paranoid.
I rather live with this than risk loosing access...
Well, I really appreciate you sticking with the problem.
I tried to clean-up a decent size partition to do the backup.
gparted did not cooperate - would not let me delete "busy" partition.
I ended up attaching my first backup to another , large , folder.
I did follow the instruction and...
I would like to rephrase the question:
These image files exists , per grub
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-5.11.0-25-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-5.11.0-25-generic
OS located on /dev/sda6 cannot find then - click on "normal " selection in grub or in advanced...
Would it be possible for somebody JUST to confirm this?
On Ubuntu 21.04
when I LEFT click on the icon on the LEFT of the desktop
the PC locks up - only recovery is to power down.
And I am NOT talking about RIGHT click - thet works as expected.
Well it is a same old story - how do you "backup" data from different application?
I will not post a list of them...
So far my "solution" is to have "important files " on RAID and just manually copy entire folders, almost daily.
And again , as in this case - how do you backup entire OS so when...
I have downloaded clean 21.04 both to USB stick and to my current /dev/sda
I now have a clean OS on sda25 and it uses Linux image xx -yy -zz ending with #25 .
Same issue - /dev/sda6 will only run with image # 20.
Somehow /sda6 lost an access to image ending with # 25 and I cannot get it...
Here is a little more to add to the mess.
1. Somewhere, very basic, I have read that sdx numbers are subject to change.
on grub menu I have /dev/sda6 which was perfectly working OS
2. Using advanced setting on grub I select /dev/sda6 - with Linux number ending with 22
I am using only Linux Ubuntu in mutiboot configuration.
The failing one is 21.04 , so was the one I was upgrading and stopped it. It has been upgraded again.
I am very paranoid and do not want to go thru full OS reinstall ever again. So I an trying to keep two copies of OS with all the...
[email protected]:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for qe:
Now this looks suspicious , the command returns immediately .
I did update -grub with same results.
(on both OS )
Now I have several options
( BTW can anybody suggest how to make a hard copy of "grub "...
I am puzzled by daily Ubuntu updates and still getting "system problem " on start-up.
Here is my best recollection what is happening.
I chose to update /upgrade ONE on my multitboot OS.
I got impatient with the snail pace of the upgrade so I "sudo reboot -f"
Now when I select in "grub" my...
to me this is a big issue with googling and finding ancient info
and passing it as current.
I found very "autoritative opinions " about EAGEL does not do spice.... I really believe that every post should be visibly dated or google should have an option to sort the finds by date
But that is...
