As I said to Chris its LMDE for the next laptop or desktop.

Problem is its part of the upgrade cycle so hard to avoid. I guess what I'm wondering is why not wait to release it, if there are so many issues, until they are ironed out? For myself once this laptop has done its dash and I have a new one, I'll be moving over to Cinnamon.

To be honest I'm not that bothered. I was more curious to see if others had had similar experiences. This laptop is near end of life so I'll just plod along. When I eventually upgrade to a new sparkly one, I'll move over to LMDE which is used on every other laptop in the house.

This is more a general comment than anything else but has anyone had real issues with the so called KDE 6 upgrade? Most of my theming is now broken and accessing theming on line via settings no longer works. Feels like a step backward not forward. I really wished this thing had not been released.

Having pulled apart and repaired damaged laptops that are HP and Lenovo, I'd opt for Lenovo if I jhad to choose but I personally like Asus myself.

Windows has lost a lot of end users but in large part to Apple. I believe Linux needs to be able to offer better native support for MS applications like Office and gaming support, an area where I think Linux has real promise, needs to be broadened. Linux has already made in roads via Steam Deck...

Had upgrade and some on going problems on two of three laptops running LMDE 6. 6 is alright but I actually think 5 was faster and less hassle. Still overall a decent distro.

I'd use Linux Mint Debian Edition due to its relatively low overhead, non reliance on snaps and its Debian derived stability. That said, my main laptop which runs two lightweight city builder games through Steam, uses Arch and its been mostly very reliable and fast.

Have heard GNOME tend to take their own path so its their way or bust? I only tried it once and hated it but then I do come from the world of Microsoft both privately and from a work perspective. I think personally Cinnamon, which I believe was borne from GNOME (??) is a decent compromise.

I find it good for cleaning out rubbish and it does tell you if one of your choices could jeopardise the integrity of your system.
