Cleared out a bunch from the queue and marked their IPs as spam.. then went through and cleaned up a bunch that got through .. marking their ips as spam also. Should be getting there.

    SSH connection problem (key authentication)

I didn't watch the video, but it doesn't look like it's using your key to connect. If it was using your key, and it was set up correctly, it wouldn't be asking you for a password. You can try connecting to your Pi via ssh and specifying the key you want to use like: ssh -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa...

CrowdStrike Outage Exposes Windows Risks: Why Linux is the Better Choice

On July 19, 2024, a significant incident underscored the vulnerabilities of Windows for mission-critical tasks. A CrowdStrike sensor configuration update caused system crashes and blue screens of death (BSOD) on millions of Windows devices, disrupting businesses, hospitals, airlines, and more...

    Failed site upgrade 07/20/2024

I'm very happy with xenforo, but am always open to something new if it fits the bill. I was very happy with phpbb in 2000ish and vbulletin after that. I'm not a big fan of what i'm seeing with Discourse so far though. I don't like the layout very much which i'm sure could be changed with...

    Failed site upgrade 07/20/2024

It'd be a big decision. Mainly since it'd likely break search engine links and we'd have to create a whole 301 map. I'll mess around with it on another server/site first and wouldn't do anything i'm sure until i've played around with it for quite a while and liked it enough to make the switch.

@f33dm3bits thanks - i'll mess around with it a bit and see how it handles spammers, etc..

    Failed site upgrade 07/20/2024

I haven't looked into discourse and just checked it out. I'll have to see what a self-hosted option looks like since it looks like we'd be in the 'enterprise' plan if we did their hosted plans. Can you give me a popular site that you like that uses it? I see they show off some big-name ones.

Just pretend that the forum went out with friends last night and drank too much and can't remember anything after midnight.

    Failed site upgrade 07/20/2024

Hey folks! I had to test our disaster recovery this morning after killing the site with an update of our forum software. Latest backup was midnight and I destroyed the site at 8am. Hindsight.. should have run another quick backup directly prior to running the upgrade, but i've never had an...

@atanere I do remember something along the lines of needing 'x' points before being able to add a URL to your profile and you just reminded me of it. I'll look into that again.

    International outage

There were two unrelated incidents.. Microsoft Azure had a major outage in their centralus region. 2 of the 3 availability zones were down after a configuration change blocked storage for all VMs, etc.. that was from about 18:30-22:00 EDC last night. My employer has most of their operation...

Hey there, I'm sorry, but I don't think we want to bug our users with surveys at the moment. They never sit right with me.

Is Linux Really That Harder Than windoze ?

Hi - there have been a couple reports about this thread into the moderators. The members of the mod team here have outside lives, are volunteers and I respect their time/work on the site. Goodbye TuxBot

Hey guys, TuxBot was a fun chapter, but unfortunately, the developer has moved on to other things. This means no future software updates. That opens up security issues. We like to make sure we're up to date on software around here to keep everything safe and secure, so we've decided to...

Solved linux.org forum mails seems to be delivered with a delay

I think things are working as designed .. you now have the email notifications set on both threads you started and threads you're involved in. Let's give it some time and get more data :)

Solved linux.org forum mails seems to be delivered with a delay

@Condobloke I think it's just a matter of whether you're 'watching w/ email notifications' or not on some of them. You may have replied in some that you didn't start while that one box wasn't checked? For any that you aren't getting email notifications for, at the top, just make sure you're...

Solved linux.org forum mails seems to be delivered with a delay

Right, there was a site-wide issue where the 'cron' job that fired off emails was getting queued way up causing a delay. That should be fixed as well.

Solved linux.org forum mails seems to be delivered with a delay

Great! I think the issue was that you'd receive emails about replies to threads you started, but not the ones you interacted with because of that unchecked box. Either way, hopefully it stays fixed lol.
