Linux Mint Mate installed. Timeshift asking for root subvolume (@).

Hi Again, A new snapshot worked fine with the Location changed to Linux partition in Toshiba external SSD. The 'Type' of snapshot was rsync, but under 'Location', it was identified as btrfs. Is that a problem and if so, how is it corrected? Am I using too many screenshots? Do I now trust the...

Linux Mint Mate installed. Timeshift asking for root subvolume (@).

Hello All, Timeshift says it made a Snapshot yesterday, the 27th. My external 1T SSD, Linux partition ( one with no root subvolume (@) has nothing in it. I manually made another snapshot today, successfully. Still nothing in SSD. Here are screenshots of My Timeshift settings. If you see any...

Linux Mint Mate installed. Timeshift asking for root subvolume (@).

Hello all, Mint looks ok to me, though seems best to use it as little as possible until we have a snapshot. Upon installing, a 4 GB swap partition was recommended, but no selection appeared to me. I selected recommended btrfs snapshot volume, but Timeshift asks for rsync. Timeshift said...

Hp Deskjet 1512 Printer failed-"The cups daemon isn't running." Quote from answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/690174

Wiz, Very interesting. Am glad you brought that up. I had no idea. So, DE can be switched out easily? The XL app icons on Ubuntu 18.04 did not appeal to me. There didn't seem to be a way to customize them. I am used to scanning in a column, not horizontal rows. Windows control panel had those...

Thanks Vrai, It did show content from Linux. I tried formatting to remove Ubuntu two or three times, which was reported successful each time. But the stick was still unusable. Is it as good as dead? I bought a couple new ones now.

GtkHash – Hashing Out The Basics

The stick shows hundreds of files in properties from Ubuntu, but still only two files from windows , 2.4 MB stick capacity and 14 KB free. It is a 16 GB stick. Is something wrong?

GtkHash – Hashing Out The Basics

Yes, earlier I couldn't find that other thread. So I asked the question. Since, I read instructions on linux mint.com. Used Etcher to load to USB stick, The utility loaded two files, bootx64.efi and grubx64.efi. Properties said the size of the stick was 6GB, then 2.4 GB, then 2.4 MB while...

Good advice, it worked, the checksums agreed. Now I upgraded Etcher, installed Mint Mate in usb stick. But funny thing. The usb stick is 16 GB, printed right on the side of it, but the properties (in Win 7) said 6 GB. Now that Etcher has installed to the usb stick, properties says 2.5 MB...

I finally got it. the checksum matches. Guess I'll have to review instructions on how to install mint mate on the proper partition. Still want to keep windows for apps that don't run on Linux. Some sites don't either. Thank you for your perseverance! jjconstr

GtkHash – Hashing Out The Basics

That command worked flawlessly. I'll use it in Mint Mate later. Another problem I had with recent commands was not capitalizing the first letter of directory names. The checksums matched so am ready for install. Would that command be: 'cd Downloads' then 'sudo apt install...

Trying to generate a hash or a checksum from a Linux command line, I type this; ~$ sha256sum linuxmint-19.3-mate-64bit.iso, and get the error; No such file or directory. What is wrong? jj

Good post, Wiz. You confirmed my suspicions. I was unsure because of having downloads in Windows years ago that would resume fine when interrupted. You avagudweegend yoursef. Cheerio
