    AC56 driver

For anyone looking to get Asus AC56 wifi adaptor working on Debian derivatives, I found this driver install works seamlessly: https://miloserdov.org/?p=5507 I have not tried on Arch.

    Nexus 7 install linux?

I have found a few solutions. Ubuntu did have an option about 10 years back but its long since expired. Someone has come up with a UB MATE alternative but to my eyes it looks complicated relative to what its being installed on. Apparently Ubuntu Touch is still viable, I'll do a little more...

    Nexus 7 install linux?

Has anyone had any success recently installing linux (of any flavour) on the Nexus 7 tablet? Its an old Google based thing sitting around gathering dust. Our daughter no longer uses it, so I thought perhaps we could put Linux on it and use it when travelling. I have found a lot of very old...

    LMDE6 Write Up and Review

Had upgrade and some on going problems on two of three laptops running LMDE 6. 6 is alright but I actually think 5 was faster and less hassle. Still overall a decent distro.

Want to find a distro that would be good for running a game server

I'd use Linux Mint Debian Edition due to its relatively low overhead, non reliance on snaps and its Debian derived stability. That said, my main laptop which runs two lightweight city builder games through Steam, uses Arch and its been mostly very reliable and fast.

The FACTS about GNOME’s plans for THEMES

Have heard GNOME tend to take their own path so its their way or bust? I only tried it once and hated it but then I do come from the world of Microsoft both privately and from a work perspective. I think personally Cinnamon, which I believe was borne from GNOME (??) is a decent compromise.

    Bleachbit

I find it good for cleaning out rubbish and it does tell you if one of your choices could jeopardise the integrity of your system.

If not for certifications, how are you going to prove your skills in IT fields outside of programming to th HR who shortlists your resume?

I used to hire IT teams in NZ, AU, Asia and in one case, the Middle East. Certifications and degrees are essentially IQ tests but may not be a reflection of actual ability. Some people have a real problem making the leap from theory to practise. Most employers will sit down with newcomers and...

Help needed with building a Linux PC

You can also take an ex corporate system like a Dell Optiplex or an HP Elitedesk picked up at bargain prices from Ebay or Amazon and upgrade it with a superior graphics card. That's what I plan to do with my next build. Obviously a little checking to ensure Linux compatibility. Often in good...

Timeshift & Similar Solutions - Safeguard & Recover Your Linux

Agreed. I do keep important files on an external drive. Timeshift is, I think, more about convenience. I took the same perspective when using Windows and various commercial backup solutions.

    Neptune Linux-Worth a look.......

Good point. Distro hopping is a guilty pleasure I indulge in too, from time to time.

    Neptune Linux-Worth a look.......

Someone said look at Steam games end user OS base, if you want an accurate indicator of who runs what. As you might expect, Windows dominates and with regards to Linux distros like Manjaro (sort of Arch), rate highly. Of course, the Steam deck is based on Arch, too. That said, it would be...

    Neptune Linux-Worth a look.......

I think it does come down to personal experience, to a degree. I had a inconsistent run with Bookworm and a patchy experience with its derivative, LMDE 6. Hence the move to Neptune which has been pretty decent. I say use what works for you.

    Neptune Linux-Worth a look.......

I'm posting this more for people, like myself, who may have had major issues with one of the bigger name Linux OS's and want a decent alternative for new and older hardware. I was going to review Neptune myself but this Youtube reviewer does a much better job than I could manage, so I'm posting...

    Solved Dependency issue.....Arch

You make an interesting point there. Last night I had to restore a laptop and was surprised to find my current data (from last night) was still there, even though the restore was two weeks old! Does it default to saving data by default and just restoring the underlying system? i was planning to...

    Nice review of LMDE6

Interesting review. I "had" LMDE 6 on three laptops but had trouble with upgrades from 5 on two of the three and then on going issues on all three. The worst problem was kernel panic on my daily driver, issues with regular upgrades and installing software from software manager on all of them. I...

    Solved Dependency issue.....Arch

Many thanks for the detailed reply and assist Wiz. Yes its a KDE desktop. I don't recall installing the imagewriter. I use SUSE imagewriter instead, which I did install. Everything is backed up. I did consider simply uninstalling the ISO imagewriter but was curious what other options you guys...
