Post a screenshot of your Desktop

Here it is a new one --Fedora Silverblue on a Framework Laptop 13". That screen is 2256x1504 and it's fractionally-scalled to 150%.

    Mechanical Keyboards

Those are the “return cues”. They allow you to put your hands back to the “rest position” without having to look at the keyboard. They support touch-typing.

    Mechanical Keyboards

If you type sparingly, there’s no much advantage, but if you type a lot, everyday, every year, then you’ll get a much better experience, healthier for your fingers. My keyboard has brown switches that require me to apply a bit of pressure, and have a nice and comfortable “spring back”; those...

    Mechanical Keyboards

Oh yeah, that’s a set of standards that are pushing hard. Indeed, all the input modules (keyboard, numpads, HUD displays, DJ mixer plates,…) of the Framework 16 laptop are to be QMK via an embedded microcontroller. I’m sure many keyboards, especially those “custom” ones, have those.

    Mechanical Keyboards

I have a Keychron K8 Pro, that allows you to control the layout and remap keys via any VIA and QMK software. It’s both Bluetooth and cable, supports switching across 3 devices and has built in macOS / all the rest switch. Linux? 100% supported by default.

Popular Keyboard Shortcuts for the GNU Bash Shell

Just a note: CTRL+L is not the same as the clear command. CTRL+L is not a command, so it won’t overwrite the last exit code ($?), but clear will, with a 0, as not likely will succeed every time it’s invoked. Probably a very minor detail, but if you’re clearing the screen while debugging some...

    Immutable desktops ?

It’s neither locked down nor it restricts what you can do with it. With the tools it uses (e.g.: rpm-ostree for fedora) you can layer customisations on top of the base (publisher) image, reboot, and voilà. Those tools are based on git, indeed. It’s only immutable during runtime. Their main use...

    Immutable desktops ?

I’ve been using Silverblue for a while and it’s a very interesting and user friendly concept.

    More than one server...

Long story short, for the servers to talk to each other, they need to be in the same network. You use VPN if the machines are located in different physical networks. The VPN will allow you to integrate such networks together. But there’s also an easier alternative if you use Tailscale —> check...

    More than one server...

Whenever you choose a method (and probably describe the problem a bit more complete, like "I want to access these from the internet", or "this is for 20 users within a business context",...) I'm sure we can provide you detailed guides.

    More than one server...

The problem is that it depends. If I was you and the servers that are provided by the Debian packages are good enough, and for your personal usage, go ahead and start "small" by installing everything in the computer itself. Things get tricky in the following cases: The versions Debian provide...

I just got one pre-ordered when they did their last event, by end of March. I'm in Batch 1 for the 3rd Gen with Intel 13th. That night / morning they had everything available.

Microsoft release their own Linux distro

Do we mean Azure Linux? https://techreport.com/news/microsoft-azure-linux-made-generally-available-after-7-months-of-public-preview/ It’s normal given the fact that many organisations use Linux VM and Linux containers on AKS. It’s not a desktop system.

OMG! I can't tell what my problem is!

How are you trying to verify the ISO? Get-Filehash in a powershell prompt should give you the SHA-256 by default (being the algorithm an option), and even comparing it “by eye” with the content of the text files you’ve download should be all you need to do. The syntax is Get-Filehash...

What was your first Linux distribution and version of that distribution?

Yeah, Window Maker was top notch. Fast forward to 2001 when I was doing my own labs that was the WM I felt most productive on.

Standard (Point) Release vs Rolling Release

1 and 2: The differences are mainly in the types of updates. Rolling updates update everything at the point where it’s “safe” (according to each distribution’s criteria) to do so. Point releases range in their approach for updates. For example, Debian only applies updates that patch issues...
