Clones or alternatives for these games

I think I can get Tetris under Batocera Linux as well as lots of other games. I have an old Dell Optiplex 745 that is very slow with a dual core 2 @ 1.8 GHz I did try to change the processor to something faster but it would only work with the processor it came with and it has 6GB RAM although...

    Old Ubuntu Distros

I've been looking at some old Ubuntu Distros, Hardy Heron holds a lot of memories that was when I decided Windows was history, it was very snappy and super fast and just worked. I like the desktop environment nice and clean compared to todays modern Ubuntu Distros. Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx was...

    Linux for older windows smartphones

That would make sense about the ROM chips not being able to be re-flashed there junky phones anyway so I don't mind ruining them by experimenting with flashing them etc. Its all for science. Interesting read about the Nokia 3310 batteries luckily I've only ever used new old stock original NIMH-...

    Ubuntu VS Mint

What I normally do when a new upgrade comes out when the old version becomes dated... I back up my files on to a USB drive or external SSD and download the latest version rather than upgrading from the old. This not only saves disk space but helps a lot with boot up times with a fresh clean...

No wifi detected in Bodhi Linux

Its bound to be mapped to another key I just don't know which one. I have tried most of them.

No wifi detected in Bodhi Linux

For some reason these netbooks require drivers and aren't widely supported I had the exact same issue with Windows 7 and that was even worse with no drivers so I went with Bodhi but have missing drivers so I went with Xubuntu and everything worked I also tried Linux MX and it was fine with that...

    NTFS or other???

I would have thought that its best to stick with exFAT to avoid any issues.

    ASUS Eee PC 1000

My charger arrived today and unfortunately the laptop isn't turning on but before I write it off I will try get it working again before its scrapped for parts. Sometimes laptops can get a build up of static inside them and this is resolved by removing the main battery and pushing the power...

No wifi detected in Bodhi Linux

I'm not able to as I couldn't connect the netbook to the internet. I ended up installing a different Linux OS and everything is working now. Bodhi seemed to lack drivers for the HP mini 100e it wasn't just the wifi but other things that wasn't working either.

    Linux Mint

I understand that but surely I would have issues with other distros if it were a hardware issue? I will check the RAM and CPU, maybe the thermal paste has dried up. The computer is knocking on a bit and I'll check the caps in the PSU and voltages etc. I could probably do with giving it the once...

    NTFS or other???

With drives formatted in FAT32 any files more than 4GB will present issues copying large files more than 4GB so its better to have drives formatted in NTFS or exFAT that purpose.

Clones or alternatives for these games

If I could play Roller Coaster Tycoon or a alternative clone in Linux I'd be happy. There is something called OpenRCT2 that allowed you to play this game in Linux but required importing the files from the original disk for it to work but it all looked very iffy and a lot of faffing about for...

I'm thinking about getting into TinyCore again

I'm looking forward to learning more about Tiny Core I haven't got the laptop yet but it will arrive in the next day of three. I selected the Panasonic CF-18 because it was cheap and it is under powered but a solid laptop good for a Tiny Core candidate, maybe not the ultimate but it will do for...

Installing Bionic Puppy Linux to hard drive

I liked it when there was a better selection of Linux Distros and I don't understand the need for small light weight distros that are 64 bit only they may as well scrap the light weight distros if they are just going to be 64 bit only. The whole point of light weight distros was to make older...

Installing Bionic Puppy Linux to hard drive

Thanks everybody for your help. I managed to get Bionic Puppy installed to the internal SSD so I can grow my hair back now. This time I didn't follow any instructions I just sort of muddled my way through it not really sure what I was doing and I know I needed to check the boot flag which wasn't...

Installing Bionic Puppy Linux to hard drive

Well that\s a bit stupid... so in other words Puppy is ruined or should be re-named the USB LIVE only Puppy or something. Oh well back to the old Bionic Puppy it is then.

Installing Bionic Puppy Linux to hard drive

What is the point in booting from a flash drive every time to run an operating system? in my opinion its silly. Flash drives are not designed for that sort of use and they will wear out fairly quickly. I don't want to be booting from a USB drive every time I use my netbook. I have a hard drive...

Installing Bionic Puppy Linux to hard drive

I'm using the new Vanilla Puppy Linux I had gone into the universal installer several times trying to work it out but there are just simply no options to select to install to hard drive. It displays one option and that is to create a live USB which I don't want to do. I have checked and...

Installing Bionic Puppy Linux to hard drive

Getting back to Puppy Linux I still haven't managed to get it installed as there is options to select other than to make a USB bootable flash drive in the universal installer. I don't want to make a USB flash drive as I am already booting from one. I have the 2023 updated version of Puppy...
