    dell battery dying

I have a dell with linux mint. I just updated to the newest version and on full charge I have 10 minutes before the battery dies. It then says 4-11 hours for full charge. terminal says battery is at 100% only a ear old and hardly ever off of charger. Any ideas?

    Kernel Update?

If I fail without bricking it, I'll mail it to you. It would just be REALLY satisfying to turn this thing into a linux machine. To take a product with a death date to force you to buy another machine and put free open source software on it to be able to use it for years to come... Is there a...

    Kernel Update?

Thanks. I tried it, but it did not solve the issue.

    Kernel Update?

I just installed mint on a chromebook. no sound. Is a kernel update a possible solution? It is using 5.4.0-131. I found a thread talking about a kernel update as a possible solution, but it did not confirm that it worked.

Finally completing transitioning to Linux 100%

I have a Dell fully set up for the privacy and control that originally inspired me to move to Linux, as well as organized with all my files, passwords, etc. Part of me loves the fact that I wiped ChromeOS before my death date. One of the top reasons I despise google, other than lies, data...

Finally completing transitioning to Linux 100%

I have been working on transitioning to Linux for a year and a half. I got sidetracked and it took longer than expected to get set up with mint as my daily driver. Well, now it's been 6+ months since I've needed to open the Chromebook for anything, so yesterday I wiped ChromeOS and installed...

Total Newby. My Experience Switching To Linux

Exactly. I'm not doing anything that requires militant security. I am just not on the I'm not doing anything wrong so who cares what they see team anymore. What I want is to have a functional computer that I enjoy using and enough privacy that I am not tracked all over the place. Or even worse...

Total Newby. My Experience Switching To Linux

My Pixel showed up yesterday, a week early. I already flashed it and CalyxOS is very impressive off the hop. I am fully degoogled and fully functional. Flash took 10 minutes. After that I installed some apps, added emails, contacts, changed preferences and I am not missing a single feature I...

Czkawka (hiccup) duplicate finder has been priceless for keeping the system clean and organized. You mean going through 1400 duplicates 1 by 1? Yup. BORING, but effective.

Vivaldi! I've heard of it, but lost it in the list of many. Just installed it. Works great, thanks for another option. I'm really liking Linux, I'm setting up a sweet system. Looking forward to getting to know it better. When I am completely free of Google (everything downloaded) I think I will...

I am willing to try just about anything. Seems a bit advanced though.

Total Newby. My Experience Switching To Linux

Hahah, Thanks. Sometimes fun, sometimes... What am I missing? This is driving me nuts! I love the userability and customization options. It's more work, but after using a system truly geared to the user, I feel like I have been duped into using junk systems that focus on user friendly frills...

Total Newby. My Experience Switching To Linux

OK, so I am continuing to get this all dialed in. I originally posted this so people looking to change over for the same reasons as me, privacy, might be able to reference it for the path others have taken. There is definitely no one size fits all solution. I am customizing for me, and there...

Can you help me install ungoogled chromium on Mint?

Ok, I figured it out. It was the public key. Is anyone using it. I found a tutorial of how to download extensions, but not install them. Everyday, taking my licks and learning my lessons.

Can you help me install ungoogled chromium on Mint?

I tried to install through the software manager and it needs a later flatpack version. I've tried everything I can find even downloading an app image, but it won't execute. Any advice is appreciated.

Total Newby. My Experience Switching To Linux

This is gonna be a bit long, but I'm just posting this in case it helps give others direction or understanding. 10 months ago I signed up to this forum to get some insight as to what type of computer to buy to get Linux installed on, and advice on which distro to choose. I ended up settling on...

setting up an online anonymous presence.

I do, I am using surfshark. last time I just gave it 5 minutes to see if it would connect. Had to turn off the VPN and turn back on. When I kill the VPN I get a wifi disconnect message. Must be the killswitch and I am tripping it by not turning things off. I couldn't get things to work at all...

setting up an online anonymous presence.

A couple questions about VPN. I've had some issues with no internet. Phone rings I put the computer aside, come back and unlock. No internet. 1st time I couldn't figure it out and just restarted. Seems if I disable and reconnect VPN I'm good. Is this my killswitch? Other times I've had internet...

setting up an online anonymous presence.

I have a very unique situation to most. I live very rural. 1/4 mile from neighbor to neighbor. Someone needs to come down my driveway and get within my range of sight to access my wifi. I don't like my phone, I don't use it for much other than calls, emails, and maps. I don't answer calls from...

setting up an online anonymous presence.

If Email has such a complete lack of privacy on it's own, I assume there is no issue in using Thunderbird mail client or the like for accessing all emails in one place?
