    Covid Corner

Stumbled across this side of the forum.I'm an old fashioned lemon and honey man myself (maybe with a dash of whisky to make things exciting). Never had the vaccine, never had COVID (have had a friend who had it, so have an idea of the symptoms). I don't smoke, drink occasionally, I do...

(SOLVED) Error: file ‘/boot/initramfs-zen.img’ not found (solved)

Hi Chris, All good. The backup software? No, I have not used timeshift. I have seen documented cases of this happening to other users. Its Arch after all so, you know..... That said, it proved pretty easy to get things back up and running. Cheers.

(SOLVED) Error: file ‘/boot/initramfs-zen.img’ not found (solved)

So I ran a "sudo pacman -Syu" update and this popped up. Loading Linux linux … Loading initial ramdisk … error: file ‘/boot/initramfs-zen.img’ not found Press any key to continue… I can still load into Arch from standard kernel but the zen kernel appears to have been broken by the update. Is...

Do you think people should use Debian or Ubuntu? Tell me which one and why.

I've had stability problems with the two Ubuntu based derivatives I've used. I'm not saying that is necessarily going to be repeated in actual Ubuntu but it did see me move a daily driver laptop to Mint LMDE and more recently, another laptop to Debian with KDE. I found actual Debian to be the...

Beginner here, don't know what distribution I should use

I'd use Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE). Its the most stable of the Debian derivatives I've come across. My daily driver on the laptop I use for business.

    Stable arch derivative

I loaded Arch (I had planned to move all my laptops to LMDE) and so far its proving more stable (for me at least) than its derivatives. Found this installer with Calamares and several diff windows managers. https://sourceforge.net/projects/ezarch/

    Limited Wifi connectivity (closed)

Most of my laptops are LMDE including work. If they offered KDE, "ALL" would be LMDE. For my money the best distro out there.

    Limited Wifi connectivity (closed)

Hey wiz, Thanks for that. I'll close this off. Have decided to move to MX Linux. I think my three year experiment with Arch has come to an end. I'm really busy at the moment too, so I don't have time to troubleshoot things on an on going basis. Linux Lite, that's an NZ distribution. I had it...

    Limited Wifi connectivity (closed)

Logged into Endeavour and suddenly find my Wifi has limited connectivity with a small yellow exclamation mark next to the wifi icon. I'd post output but of course I can't connect to the internet so, well....(I'm working from my LMDE laptop for the time being). Has anyone else had this problem...

    Firewall turns itself off....(SOLVED).

Thanks. I'm not too fussed, just so long as it works. I am more familiar with UFW as most of my laptops are LMDE. Only one is Arch.

    Firewall turns itself off....(SOLVED).

Is there some way to close off the thread and mark it solved? Ignore that question, sorted.

    Firewall turns itself off....(SOLVED).

All solved, thanks again to everyone for their kind help. This is what happens when you change distro's....LOL.

    Firewall turns itself off....(SOLVED).

Hey many thanks. Its already installed and hopefully working. More complex than what I am used to? Not sure how to check its status, I'll do a read up there.

    Firewall turns itself off....(SOLVED).

This is the problem with distro hopping, everyone does things a little differently. Hey thanks, I'll take a look and see what the story is.

    Firewall turns itself off....(SOLVED).

Running Arch derivative EndeavourOS. Have noticed the firewall keeps turning itself off. Have run sudo ufw enable and sudo ufw status which states its "active" but then I check on it again, a couple of log off/in's later and its off, again. Anyone else experienced this?

    Stable arch derivative

Thanks everyone for the lively feedback. After testing Arcolinux, OpenSUSE and Endeavour, finally settled on Endeavour. Had to manually add in Pamac which I missed from Manjaro and after making a few tweaks here and there, its running really well. Just need to see how it goes stability wise.

    Stable arch derivative

That is very helpful. Thanks. I may just go for the original rather than a derivative. Funnily enough I also have an old HP mini laptop I transferred to Linux Mint after lots of aggravation with Windows 8.Its never run better.

    Stable arch derivative

    Thanks, definitely considering Endeavour.
