    Fedora/Pantheon - Timezone issue

Thanks again - I'll take a look. Just wondered if there was a default timeout but that's handy to know I can change it too (although my dnf.config file appears to be locked judging by the "you cannot save changes" messages I get when opening it with a code editor using the Files application) -...

New to Fedora/Linux - Quick Questions

Hi Slow No need for concern. I'm not forcing this onto her, she understands why I'd like her to switch and is willing to providing she can do everything she currently does on the Windows spyware machine. She likes what she's seen so far and now I've got the OS setup for her, she'll be giving...

    Fedora/Pantheon - Timezone issue

Hi All I've been having some issues correcting the time after just recently installing Fedora and the Pantheon DE. I finally managed to set Local time correctly by turning off NTP and using "~]$ sudo date --set 17:58:00" but RTC and UTC are different to the Local time and, whilst the Clock...

New to Fedora/Linux - Quick Questions

Just to add there's two ways to right click in case any other noobs read this: 1. Tap two fingers on the touchpad whilst an item is selected (knew it would be something simple ) 2. Under Mouse and Touchpad settings you can enable "Dwell" which allows you to long click an item to bring...

New to Fedora/Linux - Quick Questions

Yes I did replace "user" with my actual username but it still failed - all sorted now though Starting to think I should try UltraMarine where some people who actually know what they're doing have setup Fedora to run Pantheon and make it more user friendly on the desktop rather than me just...

Noob trying to run before he can walk - Fedora 32-bit compatibility environment?

Hi All I'm trying to install Phoenix Firestorm (Second Life Viewer) on Fedora 36 with the Pantheon DE but the install (although completing without apparent errors that I saw) won't fire up when clicking the launch icon in Applications and just does nothing. After actually reading the install...

New to Fedora/Linux - Quick Questions

Hi All I'm trying to convince my partner to move from Windows to Linux and, after reviewing a number of distros, decided to give Fedora (with the Pantheon DE) a try! If anyone has 2 minutes to answer some initial noob questions below to get me up and running that would be much appreciated: 1...

Unable to enable USB live boot option in BIOS/UEFI - Inspiron 3505 - Windows 10 - Already tried disabling FastBoot

HI Brick Just to advise I tried the live Debian distro (twice, once using GPT and again using MBR on the USB) but both times it seemed to fail on almost every stage of the setup judging from the messages I saw scrolling past during start up - it did manage to boot a very basic form with 800x600...

Unable to enable USB live boot option in BIOS/UEFI - Inspiron 3505 - Windows 10 - Already tried disabling FastBoot

Just for completeness - I added an admin password but it actually reduced the previous list of options even further rather than providing any extra ones as hoped. I also can't "unset" the admin password to "no password set" but it no issue as am able to do what I needed to now and I guess my...

Cannot boot with a live Ubuntu in my LG laptop

Yes it turns out I needed to hit F12 rather than F2 (I thought they did the same thing initially!) - that and I also needed to use a GPT partition on the USB for Kali to boot up - all fine now.

Unable to enable USB live boot option in BIOS/UEFI - Inspiron 3505 - Windows 10 - Already tried disabling FastBoot

Looks like that software has been unsupported for a couple of years looking at the comments. I guess its not as simple as just creating 6 partitions and placing an ISO in each so you can select the one you want from the UEFI short boot menu?

No that's fine - I should've checked first. Looks like the answer is "Yes!" :) Thanks again Alex

Unable to enable USB live boot option in BIOS/UEFI - Inspiron 3505 - Windows 10 - Already tried disabling FastBoot

OK thanks and that's great to know that Linux is able to read all files whilst Windows cannot read Linux ones actually. I will be sure to read through the Kali guide if I go much further but am just looking through the Debian literature you sent at the moment - I did see that its quite easy to...
