I have a fresh install of Bionicpup32 8.0 and I am having trouble getting it to print to my Epson Expression Home XP-352 355 Series colour inkjet printer.

I have in installed the driver epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.7.7-1lsb3.2_i386.deb that I obtained from here:-

The printer works fine on a netbook running Lubuntu on an Ubuntu 18.04 platform same as Bionicpup32 using the same driver deb.

I used the CUPS installer webpage through PPM to install the driver. CUPS found the printer, the driver was in the install menu. I selected Share, didn't provide a ppd file (later did using ppd copied over from netbook - no effect), added the printer. I changed the default setting from US letter to A4. I tried to print a Test Page and get an error "Filter Failed".

I have installed avahi-daemon and selected it to run at boot up in the Boot Services Menu.
The only other packages installed are LibreOffice and Thunderbird.

Here is the error log:-

Here is the driver install.

Here is the Test Page print attempt.

CUPS-Print-Test-Page.png

Here is the same successful test Page print from the Lubuntu netbook. Note the Driver description is not the same and has the additional cups-filters 1.20.2 (colour) which I am wondering might be relevant given the "filter failed" error message on the puppy desktop test page. I have checked and cups-filters 1.20.2 is already installed on bionicpup32 version and so is cups-filters core drivers 1.20.2 as well.

Here's the netbook's access log from /var/logs/cups for comparison.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated as this minor problem has kept me frustrated for a week now, and is the only issue affecting an otherwise very nice puppy OS.

SOLVED!!!!!! After a fashion.

Registered my network printer with Epson Connect (link below) so that the printer gets assigned its own email address. Renamed the email address to something memorable, set the Printer Settings to not include Sender's Details (otherwise it wastes a page). Now can print by sending documents as attachments to the printer's email address. Not as easy as clicking print but tolerable.

Used Rox-filer file manager, right click on a file, select Customize Menu and drag using Shift-Ctrl the application icon to the folder that pops up - /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/SendTo - in my case I dragged /usr/bin/thunderbird. Now right clicking on a file brings thunderbird up as a menu option, when clicked the file automatically gets attached to a fresh email, just need to enter printer's name in the recipient's address and click send to print - almost as painfree as regular printing.

Yeah, I know, but getting on that forum is about the same as hooking up the printer. Still waiting for an email to authenticate my registration.

Yep same old problem. They need to update their forum software. It is 15 years old.

Someone tried to make moves to get them a faster forum and take the old threads over noone bothered to make the move, no interest in upgrading to the new forum - oh well!
