Hello everyone! I'm thinking on switching from Windows 10 to Linux, because Windows 10 is garbage with the new Ryzen processors (it works, but the OS can't really handle the multi-cores and it's really inefficient, half of the time the cores are processing the information, the cores are moving the info from one core to another, weird things about windows os) and the problem is that I don't know where to start. The only issue for me would be my games (steam, blizzard, gog, origin, uplay, etc) and my anti-virus (I bought Bitdefender total security 2019). I heard that on Linux I won't have any issue with viruses, but anyways I have seen lots of people that can't really play games just because they are on Linux.
My specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6 GHz Processor; GTX 750 ti video card; Asus PRIME A320M-K Motherboard and 4 Gb DDR4 ram (I'm planning to buy 8 more).
Also I have seen lots of types of Linux, like Mint, Ubuntu, Zorin, etc, so I don't know which one to install, and on the other hand there are lots of people with Ryzen processors that have problems with the Kernel and their computer won't work properly or won't boot normally.
So if anyone could guide me that would be awesome.

Hello Krig3r,

Welcome to the forums.

This a good place to start.

Have a read and read as many times as needed.

Thanks! I will give it a try and see what happens

I would give manjaro a try, because it's easy to handle and has steam pre-installed.

G'day @Krig3r and welcome to linux.org :)

I have some more input for my tomorrow (DownUnder - Australia) but you are in good hands here, already.

Ryzens have been featuring here a bit lately. ;)

Cheers

As far as gaming on Linux goes, it's definitely better than it used to be. Valve has come up with a product called Proton (enabled by signing up for betas and Steam Play). This product allows many, but not all, Windows games to work perfectly in Linux. There are games that don't work yet, but Valve is working on adding them. Most of my Steam Windows games work perfectly in Linux. There's a product called WINE (free) that you can install to help get non-Steam games to work but it's definitely hit or miss as to whether your games will work. You can check their status at http://www.winehq.com. There are other products out there as well, some paid some free. My suggestion is to modify your hard drive partition to shrink what is assigned to Windows and install Linux in the free space. This is called dual booting, and it allows you to boot to both OSes (one at a time of course). That way if you have games that you love but won't run in Linux you can boot up to Windows and still play them (i.e. Fallout 4 and 76 for me).
