Most hardware I have added has been hassle free with Ubuntu.

Not so with printers.

I installed a Canon Pixma TS 9120 printer/scanner.

It prints fine, but it will not scan.

Xsane says "No devices available."

However,
sudo sane-find-scanner

# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1820 [TS9100 series]) at libusb:002:003
# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

# Not checking for parallel port scanners.

# Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
# can't be detected by this program.

Thanks arochester. :)

I was able to use scangearmp2 to scan.

Too bad it does not have advanced functions like xsane.

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 from 18.04.

Now my Canon TS9120 scanner stopped working.

Any ideas?

Canon does not have any newer drivers.

Howsabout a driver?

May not have first choice for a distro, but how important is the scanner to you, @fixit7 ?

There's a 64 bit linux driver on Canons website in a deb package. Seems logical enough to try to load that, doesn't it?

Would you care to provide a link to the appropriate driver download, Jake, or would you rather just provide sarcastic comment?

Bear in mind too, that the most recent input from the OP was over 2 months ago, he may have found a solution.

Happy to, but as said it was from Canon's own website:

May have to select the OS pulldown and select "Linux 64 bit", but the driver package hasn't changed in a LONG time, and based on what's on their forum, it still works fine.

Doubtful, since the OP has posted the same thing on about half-dozen other forums, and has received the same advice from a lot of others.

That begs the question, why do you know that? Are you a Member at those other Forums, and are you following this Member around?

BTW thanks for the Canon link, it may help others as well.

I know that because I'm a member of 1 of those forums and saw it. And a quick Google search for the OP's issue turns up the various other forums with the various other answers/links.

And I have better things to do than "follow" some random guy for no reason, thanks for asking.

Hopefully so that was the point
