This is a separate project, we'll call it laptop #3 with a single 256 GB SSD. I recently obtained this laptop and wondering how to further partition. I was able to successfully change from MSDOS -> GPT by live booting LM and using GParted, then I installed a fresh LM 19 xcfe. When installing I was unable to partition the drive to have separate / and /home partitions. I am wondering how I can best partition the drive at this point without doing a fresh install. Here is the output for fdisk -l
Code:
jlap4@jlap4-Q503UA:~$ sudo fdisk -l
[sudo] password for jlap4:
Disk /dev/sda: 232.9 GiB, 250059350016 bytes, 488397168 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: FE0D23D6-3C5C-49E8-9C33-ADB0A231285A

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda1 2048 1050623 1048576 512M EFI System
/dev/sda2 1050624 488396799 487346176 232.4G Linux filesystem

And here is inxi -Fxs

This is just a side laptop... and to @wizardfromoz NOT taking priority over my project with laptop #1

I know you work in a hospital.

Don't page me.

...:D:D:D

Seriously, though - we have 16,222 Members (grown from 4,600 plus change when Brian and I joined 1 May last year), and there may be any number of multi-booters amongst them who just don't put their 2 cents in. I laughed, though, when I saw it in my alerts :)

I'll come back and have a look at this as soon as I have time, probably before this weekend.

In the meantime, others may have some valuable input for you.

Can't knock you for lack of enthusiasm, though.

That's good that you are getting the hang of that :)

When installing I was unable to partition the drive to have separate / and /home partitions.

Did you choose a standard install, usually the top option, or Something Else, usually at the bottom?

I am wondering how I can best partition the drive at this point without doing a fresh install.

Don't worry about a fresh install unless you particularly want to. A /home folder is as good as a Home partition, and Timeshift will back it up for you provided you choose all and all with the users Root and jlap4, your userid.

In XFCE your File Manager (FM) is Thunar, nice little viking if you click Help.

Open Firefox, have a browse, close it down.

Open Thunar, click on Home, you will see the usual half dozen or so folders eg Docs, Videos, Music, &c.

Then click and hold Ctrl-h and tell us what you see.

I will! I am covering an out of town shift at the moment so I do not have that laptop with me. I should be able to do this over the weekend.

In answer to the install question - I tried to do "something else" but I could not get the installed to load in /boot so the install failed. I allowed the installer to erase and install and it was successful.
