I resized the partition that my home directory is on to give it 60+ more GB. When I boot up and open up the "files" app, it tells me that I only have 7.5GB free space at the bottom. Did I do something wrong or am I missing a step?

Welcome to Linux.org

You might like to tell us the rest of the story with your pc.

Which OS is on it.....just one...or are you dual booting

Make & model of pc/laptop

What made you feel you had insufficient space initially

fill in the gaps please.

I'm booting off of an external drive. Using Linux Mint Vera. I plan on installing software to do some graphic art and will need more than just 7.5G of storage space. I travel and use different machines, so this helps me to keep what I am working on portable. The machine that I use to boot off at home is an hp elite8100.

These questions come to mind:
What tool was used to resize the partition?
Can you show details of the full partitioning on the disk, either from the command line output, or from the graphical output of a program like Gparted?
What did you actually do?
What commands did you execute?
Are you dual booting or just a single linux installation?
What do you mean by "booting off an external drive?"
What do you actually do to boot from such a drive?
What is the drive?
