Remember these days.

Oh, man...

If you raised children like I was raised, you're going to jail and they're taking your kids from you.

My parents were mix-race, so that was straight up illegal in some areas and my dad was often stationed along the southern part of the eastern seaboard.

In the summer, I was outside from breakfast to dinner - at like the age of five or six. I was supposed to say within site of the windows, but screw that.

When I was 16, I spent the summer touring with the Dead, selling tie-dye t-shirts and bandannas to pay for my ticket and share of the gas money.

I had my first BB gun at like the age of 10, and a .410/.22LR over-under at the age of 12.

Yeah... My parents would go straight to jail these days.

Somehow, we all managed to survive - except a few of us lost to vehicle accidents and those rules haven't changed much. Sure, we sometimes got hurt - but we learned important lessons with our pain.

I'll point out that politics is strictly off limits - so I won't get into some other topics.

My parents were old fashion Catholics and that's the way my brothers and sisters and I were raised get out of line and you got the belt or a hand across the mouth.

I can remember many days and hours kneeling on a hardwood floor in the corner thinking about the reason my brothers and sisters and I were kneeling on the floor in a corner.

Good old fashion discipline is what it was called in my childhood and believe me you remembered and didn't screw up again for awhile.

Anyway we had a lot of fun growing up in the olden days times were simple and we knew how to have fun and find all kinds of cool stuff to do.

I'm glad I was kid and grew up when I did and wouldn't trade it for anything nowadays.

The simple things we enjoyed would definitely be frowned upon today, picking/pulling fresh fruit/veg giving it a cursory wipe on the trousers and eating it, climbing trees [at 10 yrs old 35 ft up in the air was marvellous] and we never bothered about falling, we found a stout tree growing over a disused quarry [about 120 ft deep] found a rope, tied it to a thick branch overhanging the side and made ourselves a swing out, [we didn't know about stress testing the rope or branch] but it was fun, going out on our bikes [i was about 13] on a sunny Sunday 40 miles to the nearest seaside coming home after dark, we didn't have gaming machines or laptops, oh and telly started at 5pm finished at 10 pm Mon-Sat and 9pm Sunday, the rest of the time Radio was our home entertainment, By modern standards we would be considered deprived, but none of us ever had childhood depression. We were healthier and developed our own sense of self-preservation.

Yep, Remember those days :) Tells you how old we're getting :)
Never stayed inside most of the time we were outdoors. We made our own entertainment. No streaming anything unless it was in the stream near our home.

Lots of memories.

How many of today's mobile phone controlled screen watching youngsters will look back at how they spent their childhood with such fondness , if they ever reach our age.

Exactly and I don't ever remember get sick because of pulling fresh fruit from wherever however I do remember a stomach ache a time or two from eating too many apples.

We went down to the stream and caught fish and cleaned them and cooked them stuck on a stick over an open campfire we made from sticks and branches.

We always carried our boy scout mess kit and a canteen of water when we went fishing with our pocket knife and matches and never caused any fires either.

We were always riding our bicycles everywhere all day long places our parents told us to stay away from just to see why they didn't want us to go there.

Rainy weekend days were spent at the movie theater watching the afternoon movies.

We collected pop bottles we found because with enough of them we could get some change to spend on nickel and penny candy.

It was great to be a kid back then or at least I thought it was.

Not many if any because most of them seem to stay inside their house on their cell phones and game consoles and social media.
