NVME disk problem linux version question.

What you want is Live CD/USB but hold off on that for a moment.

If you have already went into the BIOS and selected AHCI and Linux doesn't see your nvme than the only other thing you could try is to disable "Sata Operation" and see if you can install Linux.

An Arch user was able to solve the problem by disabeling the Sata Operation.

I recommend installing Linux Mint 20.

When I installed Linux Mint 19.3 it saw my brand new nvme M.2 drive-:)

The only thing that doesn't make sense to me in this is how come a Parted Magic software from 2016 can see (and use) the drive, while others can't.
So the only one that sees is 2016, and that also only see it with SATA on. I can double check that.

I am happy if I can make a USB bootdisk, you are saying install Mint, but how if it won't see the drive ?
And how to make a boot disk for that?! Too much Linux I don't know.
Mint will either see the drive or it won't.

IF it won't and you already checked AHCI in the BIOS try disabling "Sata Operation:" and see if it boots into your Linux install.

Are you using a CD/DVD or a USB to install Linux?

No cd/dvd in this machine.

I don't know why an older version of Parted Magic see's the drive.
Gparted should see it too.

It is telling me during boot that the drive is not ready.
Then it goes into configuration.

This is the 2016 with SATA disabled.
Boots to menu, I select default. 20210331_162131.jpg
It goes to a text menu (not able to do GUI if there is one)20210331_162409.jpg
I select Back up because before I reformated the drive, it used to be able to see it here. It doesn't any more. (that was MBR now it's GPT, maybe thats why) 20210331_162421.jpg
Then I use this menu to go to shell.
This time it does not see the drive (as no SATA)20210331_162451.jpg

Then I rebooted with with SATA/AHCI

I downloaded Mint.
There was an integrity check or what in the menu, I started with that.
It said failedInitrmfs unpacking filed: decoding failed. Kicked me back to the main menu, I will start installing with default.

It looks like the only option Parted Magic is giving you is to 'scan and repair disk partitions'.

With Gparted you can edit or resize a partition.

Does Mint load up to the desktop?

So this is just the installation page, of cause there no drive to be seen so there is nowhere to install it.

I did that.
I said it at the beginning that there was an MBR partition on it and windows installer would not touch it.
So I deleted it, I created a GPT partition or volume or what ever it's called in linux, and I think it's formatted too. Thinking that was enough for Windows installer to see it. It didn't.
So I don't know how else to prepare this drive for windows (or later linux) so I can manipulate it from there.
Don't forget Nwipe also had no problem with it (in the 2016 version).
Something happens during boot that does not happen in other versions and after that no initiation, they can't do anything.

It's not even partition magic , it's just that partition magic boot disk.
After booting to that, I can use fdisk. that's not a partition magic program, right?!

Or if that applies to Mint as I don't know these damn systems. Very frustrating.

So I have this Mint install disk, can boot to the 2016 boot disk (where I see the drive) and start to install mint from there?
Most of the time I can't run a program from command line. (past experience)

Seagate has linux tools, but I have not been able to figure out how to boot to the 2016 usb and run an installer or a program from Seagate. Very frustrating.

Have you tried going into the BIOS and disable "Sata Operation"?
Reboot and than try to install Linux Mint.

If that doesn't work I'm not sure what will.
