  • We're getting new flooring in the bathrooms at work, so we have to use port-o-potties for the time being. When I using one earlier tonight, I realized that'd be hilarious if someone made a parody of Doctor Who where their version of the Tardis was a port-o-potty. I can see Family Guy doing that.
My friend's mom died a year and a half ago, and today would've been her birthday. To make matters worse, he's an orphan because he never met his dad either. To honor her memory, I was talking with him about donating clothing to an orphanage. When I was at work just now, I was asking my coworkers if they have any clothing they'd like to donate, and they either didn't or said they'll check.
Originally, I wanted to try out Zorin and possibly switch to it afterward, but because it uses SystemD (which I find to be invasive), I want to try Redcore instead

I actually work with Linux for my job, SystemV was fine but when Systemd came it worked and made things easier. If something else follows I'm happy to work with that but for now I think Systemd will stay for a while.

After learning more about stable vs rolling releases, I've decided Artix isn't for me because it uses the latter. Devuan is another distro I was interested in checking out though.
I developed gout in my right knee last night, and ended up going to the ER for it because my mom was going there too for consistent gastro problems. We spent practically all day there because the staff are unbelievably slow, and one of them even gave me a bit of an attitude. I have to recuperate for the next 5 days, which means I'll have to miss work, while my mom has to stay overnight.

Hope you get better soon. Might be a good excuse to watch sponge bob at worst.

I haven't done that yet. Because my dad has knee problems as well, I've been trying to find a friend who can come over and complete some chores around the house for us. Once that's taken care of, I'll work on some drawings I've been meaning to catch up on, and finish reading "I Am Spock" by Leonard Nimoy.

Because I couldn't find a friend to help me, and I've been taking care of my parents through an agency when I'm not at work, I called the agency earlier today and they said they'll find someone to send out. It wouldn't be a bad idea to ask my supervisor if she could have a caregiver come over when I'm at work, and then have me take care of them on my off-days.
One of my coworkers said she wants me to dogsit for her sometime soon, which is nice, because I've always wanted to take care of people's pets. I will say there are definitely some things I'll need to learn beforehand because I've only worked with cats. Thankfully, two of my other coworkers have cats, so they might hire me to catsit for them.
My mom's been having various health issues over the years, and now needs to have a stent put in her heart. Once she's finished recuperating, her other health problems (minus her kidneys (she's on dialysis for that)) will begin to diminish. I just wish she explained it to me that way, rather than putting words in the doctor's mouth and making me worried to the point of tears.
While cleaning the floors and bathrooms at work is tedious and time-consuming, I don't hate the job itself, nor do I hate my coworkers and clientele. However, I'd rather work for myself if I was giving the option to do so. Because of that, I'm thinking of asking my coworkers if I can complete odd jobs for them. Hopefully that will allow me to finally quit the rat race.
This morning, I was informed that one of my coworkers has recently been stalked by a creepy patron. He left her a note on a napkin with his phone number, which she showed to the police when filing a report. While I'm sure they'll trace it and bust him, my other coworkers and I will have to be on alert in case he comes in again.
For those of you who remember when I tried dating that one coworker and it didn't work out, there's another coworker I've been gradually getting to know better, and I might have more of a chance with her. Be aware I have tried dating sites and I don't mind meeting other women outside of work in person.
After I completed my shift at work, I decided to change into my party clothes and hang out there for an hour and a half. I figured if I'm going to be there, I should look good doing so. While I was there, I was trying to complete a drawing for my coworker's son's birthday, but it didn't come out the way I wanted it to.
When I was at work today, I saw Chuck Norris starring in a total gym infomercial, which made me come up with this fact: Whenever Chuck Norris farts, he creates gas clouds in space
Because I've had to deal with the snow at home and at work, which eventually has become exhausting, I asked my boss for less hours and he was fine with that. Right before I left my 10 hour shift tonight (part of which was overtime again), the assistant manager told me if I work another 10 hour shift on Wednesday, I can have the rest of the week off. That is what consistent hard work has earned me.

    *Update*
While I still had to work overtime, I only worked a 6 hour shift. The wine-tasting event was cancelled because of the blizzard, and I completed all of the tasks they asked of me. The bad news was I was an hour and half late because my snowblower died on me again, so one of my neighbor's friends had to come over and helped me finish plowing my driveway.
When I was at work tonight, I encountered an older man who not only lost his wife 2 weeks ago, but he also lost his wedding ring when washing his hands. I happened to find it and gave it to the manager for him to reclaim. When he went up to her sometime later and asked if someone found it, she said I did and pointed to me, leading to him coming up to personally thank me.
I'm honestly starting to get fed up with how consistently lazy most of the younger waitresses are at work, especially when I've repeatedly came in the next morning and it looks like a bomb went off. When they're not waiting on tables, they just play on their phones. I'm starting to think the manager in charge of them may not put her foot down and make them take initiative.

Like most jobs and other things, social media is the modern individuals* way to retreat from not being perfect and ends up being a retreat that just brings more laziness and a lack of effort.

    * I say individual sarcastically as most people are slaves to other people's opinions and social media is just a stream of judgment.

While I have my fair share of flaws there as well (I inadvertently got into a small argument with my boss yesterday), the reason why I don't play on my phone is A) I'm always finding something to do, and B) I have a very basic flip phone that doesn't have social media on it, nor does it allow me download anything. Sure, I can still access the web on it, but it's not the same as me doing so on my laptop.

I was wrong about the manager. When I pulled her aside and politely talked about my issues with the waitresses, she did say she and the owner are working on giving them checklists, among other things. Hopefully them implementing this will make a difference in the long term.
Because my parents are elderly and in poor health, I've had to step up and help out more around the house in recent years. I just got out of orientation for a second job that will pay me to take care of them.

Sad to read about your parents' health conditions. They're lucky to have you supporting.

That, and my brother comes over and does what he can to help. While it's unfortunate that a number of their conditions are due to genetics or old age, some of them are the result of not living a lifestyle where they're genuinely happy, taking good care of themselves, or being physically active.
