Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

PS to WizardfromOz: Just for fun, I did run sudo gdisk -l /dev/sda on the new set up with a fresh SATA SSD. The result is a bit concerning... [sudo] password for mrbobmx: GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 1.0.1 Warning: Partition table header claims that the size of partition table entries is 0...

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

Wiz, you are a great resource. But my patience with trying to install Mint 21 ran out. I obtained a disk with MX Linux and presto chango, it installed beautifully, no hiccups just smooth sailing. The distro is clean looking and has many similarities to Mint. Best of all,the system recognizes...

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

Since I am booting from a different SSD Sata drive and using Mint 21, I thought I might list the system info to try to help... sudo inxi -Fxxxrz [sudo] password for robert: System: Kernel: 5.15.0-41-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.2.0 Desktop: MATE 1.26.0 info...

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

Well. I did get to the Grub menu and I did boot into Linux Mint 21. If I just select the first option, it starts up and then hangs to a black screen. If I pick the option to go to recovery, the system does boot up, but not 1920x1080 but 1024x768, which is blocky. I can still use Mint 17.3, if...

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

Thank you Brickwizard, for keeping up with this issue. I would pick something from the grub menu, but there isn't one on the boot drive. It just launches into Linux Mint 21 and then hangs. I will try something else if I can think of it.

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

Thanks for your reply, Lord Boltar. I should have said I wanted to do a clean new install instead of saying upgrade. I did the check sums and my download is fine. I managed to install Mint 21 onto a brand new 512gb SATA SSD. If I set up the boot page to that hard disk, the system opens with...

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

I tried to update the BIOS file to no avail. There are 9 updates to BIOS. Which to choose? Did not matter because the 2 I tried did not load. For some reason, Mint 17 does not allow you to copy files easily from your computer to the flash drive. When I finally get the files on the flash...

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

Thanks for the update. I do believe I have 8 gb memory installed. Now I am trying to boot from a usb flash drive, but the BIOS seems not to have a way to do it...sigh.

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. I did burn a new disk for Mint 21, but that did not seem to help. Will try these other possible answers as well. And thanks too for the welcome mat!

Unable to run live disk Linux Mint 21 to upgrade

I am using a older computer but still serviceable. My current install is an outdated Linux Mint 17.3. I tried to get a boot disk with the live Mint 21 (and 20) to load so that I could install Mint 21 in lieu of Mint 17. Not so fast...I keep getting errors that prevent the live install disk...
