    Retro Ick...MEH

So the little retro build, been working on has had it's share of problems. First ABIT Socket A Athlon MB, the socket was toast and toasted the CPU. Turned on power, POP blew a transistor surrounding the die. Had another Socket A MB Gigabyte, no power at all, caps look bad. On a shelf in the...

Ran into a problem with the Abit MB. Cleaned it as best I could. Just was not consistent in IDE controller. Had another Board. Same socket A Athlon. Switched it out noticed the PS fan not even trying. Bearing was sluggish. Switched it will another fan. Hit the Power switch. POP. Clear Electric...

You need a different drinking partner, keyboards don't drink. Maybe you need a designated typist.

I just went down and grabbed a new in box 450W ATX PS, to finish my retro build and what do you know, A whole Socket A AMD Athlon ASROCK still in the case, with floppy drive and dvd, and PS still installed, no cooler vid card or CPU but I have all those. Just hook up the LS-120 to the IDE and an...

At least there is some Linux control. The base color when turned on it reverts to green, Minty green, so I just kinda leave it that way now. The others, the MSI the Red Dragon TenKeyLess without software are blue. With the TenKeyLess though, if I set it up in windows then boot into Mint it...

Nope, Sadly that is Windows, OpenRGB can control the lighting in Mint. Not the same flexibility though. It does the whole board but not individual. As to the stuff on the floppies, i can just convert the files to IMG and upload them to Internet Archive.

Played them all. Including the New versions of DOOM 2016, DOOM Eternal, all the New Wolfensteins. DOOM 1.1 had multi-monitor support back then, took some work, then nothing. Tech sometimes takes a step back. Innovations then boom. Some companies have no foresight. My Furnace is a Local...

SSD's are volatile 5-10 years... the floppies so far and the IDE HD's still have readable data. so by my count on the LS120 disks that is 25 years of data storage. I HD is from 2001. Not the most important stuff on them yet but there is that Floppy with the Original DOOM. And Version 1.1 DOOM...

My basement looks like an old PC Store. Even have a ribbon printer, takes the rolls of paper with the holes...

    Floppies :)

Ran down to do a load of laundry in my basement. Just found 4 boxes of LS-120 disks. 120MB on each. 20 total. Not much fits on them anymore. But I also found 4 disks. 2 each versions of the original DOOM. Win 3.1 DOS 3, and 6. Was not thinking doing retro though I have enough stuff, including a...

You (I) my have a problem.....

So I just built an open frame rig. Before the CPU which is a Ryzen 3600. GPU is an RX580 8GB 16GB DDR4. To test instead of installing on a laptop or VMing distro's on the desk. The MB is the old B450 outta my desk. Built this for my Niece. She has a Full Size Poodle and likes the white. Had to...

    For the old-school Linux.org users...

Linux....try it out of being curious, but it can become a more comfortable thing. When you have MS being more controlling of what is yours, the "Rotted Core" company even more controlling on their stuff. Tux is more about tinkering with things. It is about not conforming in some sense. When it...
