Mint 18.3 - Firefox/Waterfox loses internet connection - Mac laptop doesn't while on same network.

Thanks Atanere, I should have mentioned the connection type; the desktop is cabled to the modem and is the one losing connection. The laptop is on wireless, but does okay. Weird; I would have thought it would be the other way around. Here is the output from the command you gave me: inxi -n...

Mint 18.3 - Firefox/Waterfox loses internet connection - Mac laptop doesn't while on same network.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows what I can do to fix this; I'm using Mint 18.3, with Firefox and Waterfox for my web browsers. I lose a lot of work when the internet connection just gets lost. When it does, I check it on my Mac laptop, which is on the same network, and I'm still connected. No...

    Paranormal mouse and keyboard behavior...

Thank you Wizard - I tried deleting one of the mouse entries first. It stopped responding, so I just disconnected it and and reconnected it to the same port. It has been working fine now for 2 days, even after the machine comes out of some kind of sleep mode. Next, I tried the same thing with...

    Paranormal mouse and keyboard behavior...

I know...we got some snow too. Looks like I'm running Linux Mint 18.3 'Sylvia' Cinnamon. All my ports are USB 2.0. I will try to get ahold of Mint Mate and get it onto a USB. Still working with disabling some of the surplus lines in xinput. Thanks Guys!

    Paranormal mouse and keyboard behavior...

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome back : ) Here is the result of the “xinput” command: ~ $ xinput ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ TypeMatrix.com USB Keyboard...

    Paranormal mouse and keyboard behavior...

Well - maybe not really paranormal, but that sounded more fun :). Maybe more accurate to say "Mice and Keyboards Behaving Badly". I wouldn't normally write about something like this, because, though annoying, I could remedy the problem by moving the mouse to another USB port - if one was open...

Stuck at "grub" screen after installing recommended upgrades & rebooting.

Great advice gentlemen. Thank you Robert, Atanere, and Wizard. I will definitely read that article. Thanks for the link. The chmod and chown commands look particularly helpful too. I've wiped the hard drive and am starting over, and considering keeping only Linux on my desktop; maybe just using...

Stuck at "grub" screen after installing recommended upgrades & rebooting.

Hi Atanere and Wizard! Thank you for writing back. I always appreciate your input. I probably won't be able to work on my Linux issue until Friday or after, and I wanted to update my last post with a little more information. None of it is good though lol. Not long after I sent the post on this...

Stuck at "grub" screen after installing recommended upgrades & rebooting.

Ughhhhh. Guys, I'm about at my wits end. I thought installing and using Mint fixed both the boot-up problems. But, they are back in a slightly different form, plus I am plaqued by permissions becoming restricted on whatever I'm working on. Permissions Transferring music from my Pearl partition...

Stuck at "grub" screen after installing recommended upgrades & rebooting.

Hey there. Yes, I have Mountain Lion backed up now. Also, the game I use Wine for is "Unreal Tournament (Game of the Year edition [year 2000 or so])". I am not a gamer, but this was some of the most fun I've had on any computer, so I was really thrilled to get it working on Linux with Wine. I...

Please open the file named "Dec 15 report from Hans" from among those 5 files above - it contains all the text and images. Thank you.

Stuck at "grub" screen after installing recommended upgrades & rebooting.

Hi Wizard, Using the techniques given to me, I was able to boot back up into Pearl - thank you! That was the biggie for me. Although, I still have the boot and performance problems that led me to the update that has caused the problems. But, more info first: Here is the file I typed up:

Stuck at "grub" screen after installing recommended upgrades & rebooting.

Hi Wizard, I have some good things to report, though I'm not out of the woods yet - more to come later today but have to run for now. The help I'm getting is paying off though : )

Stuck at "grub" screen after installing recommended upgrades & rebooting.

Hi Atanere, No, just one hard drive. But, I think I see why there was a disparity between the steps I should have taken, and those I actually did; I had two usb thumb drives in my computer while I was doing this. Even though I only use Linux and Mac, this is the readout that an “ls” gives me...
