    I bought me some nice stuff today: a Fractal Design North ATX case for my desktop PC, a modular PSU and a M.2 drive that works a gazzillion Mbps. And a bunch of USB cases for the disks I will replace.

    This is the first step of a rolling update I will be doing over the next few years, but I am excited AF.

    Sh!t happened when moving the old PC guts to the new case, and I had to buy new motherboard, cpu and ram with hilarious consequences. My PC now works, some subsystems like the bluetooth and the ethernet card are not supported by Linux as it's one of the new x870 chipsets for AM5 and Ryzen 9000, but hey.

    It works and I built it.

    Soon I am going to sacrifice a Windows 11 installation live. It's going to be narrated in Spanish, but eventually I'll upload it to YouTube and Peer Tube, and the intention is to upload subtitles, too.

    It may just be an opinion, but when an OP asks how to solve or troubleshoot their system with a given distribution, say Ubuntu, telling them to install some other system, say Mint or Arch, is not helpful at all.

    We all like our favourites, but they may not be the cup of tea of anyone else.

    Yup; couldn't agree more. I realise that Mint is the preferred "cup of tea" for many here, but you cannot in all conscience expect everybody to use it.....just because a few think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

    Sure, it makes it easier to proffer advice, but.....where's the fun in that? It becomes predictable, and 'humdrum'.....and I, for one, don't ever want to see Linux become like that.

    I finally went back to Fedora Workstation (from Silverblue) due to some problems with docker (where I went back trying to solve my issues with podman) and then with minikube, that were causing so many friction to consider it a sustainable option. However, if my computer usage was entirely household / domestic, I would use it no doubt.

    I just got one pre-ordered when they did their last event, by end of March. I'm in Batch 1 for the 3rd Gen with Intel 13th. That night / morning they had everything available.

    When I finally have a new job, I'll look into getting one then. The laptop I'm using now is like a beater car. It may not be in the best or newest condition, but it at least works.

    Well, for what is worth I am restoring Windows on it now, because I managed to donate it to a person in need that will go back to the workforce using it. Now that feels even better, even though Windows.

    I cannot post threads. I was going to open an offtopic to say that I have Mastodon hosted at home in a Raspberry Pi and it works like a charm.

    What an amazing machine. Flawless experience.

    Mastodon.....change your mind?...I would not know where to start. it is a step away/forward from twitter (as I understand it).....I have zero experience with either.
    I see twitter as a gargantuan tax write off for its current owner.

    The "change my mind" was more on the Raspberry Pi component, mastodon all good.

    This week I moved definitely to mastodon after joining in 2016, leaving twitter for good. Indeed, I run my own instance!

    I have not been into Twits/tweets or any other social media, except Face book, which I hate, but my security blind relatives insist on using to keep in contact, is this one any better security wise?

    I am quite upset with the last video of Chris Titus Tech. It's basically showing us how to break debian (minute 14:12) by first removing the sources for security updates, and then switching branches (which leads to a frankendebian)

    No, he installed bookworm, and then (i) removed the security sources "just so you don't have duplicated sources [sic]" and then (ii) changed to the sid tree and performed an upgrade over a bookworm install which can break everything (-> frankendebian).

    Sid's packages are intended to be used for development purposes on a chroot environment, not to be put in front of a final user. We're confusing sid with a rolling release, which is not.
