Hello everyone.

I'm new to linux. I have installed MX 16.1 on an old desktop and I am trying to figure out how to do things.

I would like to be able to mask my IP and download torrents. Just before, I was searching to install some torrent client, which seemed like something very hard to do, when I realized I might have one already pre-installed on my system, called "Transmission". Right?

Now the question is, how can I mask my IP? When I click on: Ethernet Network > VPN Connections it seems like I can configure a VPN here. But how?

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

This MX release was/is based on Debian Jessie, which just reached it's end of life cycle. https://www.debian.org/News/2020/20200709 I think you should upgrade to MX 18 at the very least. However, MX 19.2 latest release, would be a lot better.

I use this https://protonvpn.com/ it's free with some limitations, easy to install and set up. I've used it like for a year or so and it's worked great. Just follow the instructions:
1. On that page click on get protonvpn now
2. Choose free as your plan, just click on get free or you could opt for some of the paid plans too, it's all up to you.
3. If you don't have a proton account create one. If you do have an account, log in.
4. Once you've created your account or logged in install the vpn client by following instructions from here https://protonvpn.com/support/linux-vpn-tool/
That's it.

hope this helps! :)
