When I was trying to launch into an Ubuntu Live CD on my laptop, after loading for some time it froze on the splash screen and never continued to the OS. I tried loading it again this time without "quiet splash" and noticed that at one point there were 2 start jobs for detecting a GPU and eventually where the splash screen would freeze, the non-splash screen version would just keep looping the last remaining start job of detecting a GPU (the other one actually finished). I tried it again but this time using "nomodeset" and got to the login page, but everytime I click the Live user it would flash the non-splash screen again before just sending me back to the login page, as if I didn't just click the Live user.

I've spent so long trying to boot into and install Linux on this laptop before and had already given up then. How can I fix this and get to installing and using the OS?

My laptop is a HP Pavilion 17-ab404na, it has an Intel processor (i7-8750H?) with intergrated graphics and a dedicated nVidia graphics card (GeForce GTX 1050Ti mobile).

Secure boot was already off.

Don't worry though, it's working now, thanks. I didn't know I had to install the proprietary drivers.

You're Welcome-

Glad to hear it's working for you.
Have a good weekend.

Cheers,
Alex
