want to switch to linux but need help

If you are new to Linux, a raspberry pi is a great place to start. there are some great tutorials on youtube(and really all over the internet) it is just a tiny(credit card sized) computer. you install raspbian linux, and just start playing with it. They were originally designed for kids to learn about computers, but they have become powerful enough, they can be used for lots of different applications. Be warned though, once you figure it out, they become addictive. I have Ham radio sites across a few mountain tops, and have raspberry pi's running in those locations, and another 8-10 at home. jusst take 10 minutes and watch a Youtube video about the pi, I promise you, it is a great learning tool
Okay thank you a lot! Will check it out

I got one more question. Once I get linux. Everything will work right? like my webcam and keyboard etc, I have a AZERTY keyboard

Yeah everything should work. If you want to use a Windows program on Linux you will have to install a program called Wine.

If your webcam doesn't work than try the program called "Cheese" to make your webcam work.
Linux Mint should have Cheese listed in the Software Manager or Software Center.
Here's a link for that:

Your keyboard should be recognized too.
If not you can go into keyboard settings if my memory serves me right.

@Fury

From memory when you install Mint they ask about your keyboard and if you don't know what keyboard there is an option for it to find out the keyboard by asking you to press several of your keys and it then tells you the board you have.

Yes, I will be installing mint looks like. Gonna send my laptop for repair in a week I think. After that when it’s back I will deffo get mint. I’m so excited to get linux, I heard it’s really good. And that’s what I want, I need to run this laptop for a lot of years. I can’t have a bad OS.

@Fury
I don't think you will regret it either. I found the desktop to be intuitive and learning to use the terminal is easy as long as you take your time and think about what you doing and use the man pages to help you with the command line syntax.

For sure bro. I’m just worried about the things working on Linux like my GeForce chips and more stuff.

like my GeForce chips
I run a Ge Force video card and have no problems to date with it. I also have an ASUS Xonar sound card and though it took a couple of days before Mint worked it out and now it works fine except I cannot access its control console. The only problem I have had is with my Realtek NIC. Vindows just creates a mini WAN port to operate through but either have to figure a way to configure one with Mint or get a router to set a WAN port.

I see. Basically all the data of the cios and stuff is saved in the disk. I should move them out before to a new folder right? Cuz when I install linux it says that it will erase everything in the disk file?

What sort of volume/space consumed are we talking here, Fury? Gigabytes?

Ballpark figure.

Cheers

Of that I am unsure of as I mounted Mint straight on to a clean HD. But the Video card has an on-board processor and so I think it saves a lot of its information on board as well. Just something I have never thought about.

Yes a lot of gigabytes. It says that the disk has 159GB and I’m sure that windows isn’t that big so I’m worried about that

Yeah bro. Once this is figured out, Linux is the way
