I had a lovely weekend attending some events with my grandchildren. Last night after a concert I came home and was going to put my new pictures and videos on my new Lennix system on my Compaq computer. However, when I plugged my iPhone into my computer with a USB cord, I was unable to find any pictures on my iPhone. The only thing I could find on my iPhone were something in the documents folder which actually were three apps that were on my iPhone. I was tempted to use a command line but I had no idea which one to use and didn’t think Linux could read my mind if I tried to make one up. Please, can somebody tell me how to find pictures and videos on my iPhone using my Linux computer.

We gotta teach you how to say "Linux" girl :p

It's like your Lennix but with two i's, so pronounced like Linnix.

Linux.

Double-click the “DCIM” folder inside the iPhone device. Your photos and videos are stored in a 100APPLE folder. If you have lots of photos and videos, you'll see additional folders named 101APPLE, 102APPLE, and so on. If you use iCloud to store photos, you'll also see folders named 100Cloud, 101Cloud, and so on.Apr 10, 2018

Yes, I keep adding "Linux" to my dictionary but then forget to check my text for errors, and the dictionary still isn't getting it right.

Thanks for the info and the link, I'll be checking into that tomorrow.

Thanks for the Aussie English lesson, too. :)

Always welcome.

I use a Samsung (Android software, based originally on Linux, surprise, surprise) and the DCIM applies there, too - must be a standard across phones. But the directory structure differs after that.

I'm off for my Tuesday night soon, and given the timezones:

Brian @Condobloke and Stan @atanere both use iPhones, so by mentioning their names with the @ in front, it pings them, that is, their ears will be burning next time they login.

Evening, and out for now.

Brian does, but I do not. Wizard's link to the howtogeek article is as good a place to start as any. Brian has been struggling recently also, but he is insisting on transferring photos wirelessly, and that is proving to be even more difficult. You may have better luck with a cable.

I've never owned an Apple device, and I won't. Their rigid ideology restricting users and outrageous price tags have made this decision an easy choice for me. :D

Cheers

+1

I use Android and I just plug a cable into my computer and open the File Manager and look for Android and open it and copy and paste to where I want to and it's a done deal. :)

Let me just say, the only reason I have an iPhone is because my daughter got a good deal on it and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I like it, in fact, I like it a lot. However? if it doesn’t play nice with Linux then I’m not quite sure how long I’m going to keep it. And any rate, I will start looking into this in just a little bit and see what I can come up with as far as getting my pictures transferred. Thank you, guys, for all your help.

PS. All this and I haven’t even started using command lines!

I know people who use iPhone and they connect a cable from their iPhone to a usb thumb drive and download their pictures to the usb thumb drive.

Do you know someone who uses an Apple computer if so have them download you pictures onto a usb thumb drive.

Buy a cheap digital camera to take pictures etc you can then download your pictures from the digital camera onto your computer.

Oh, just you wait! Your day is coming! :p:D

But actually, you have, if only just a small bit. Remember df -h to check your hard drive size?

Here, I'll throw you another one:
Code:
free -h
This will tell you how much RAM memory (and SWAP) you have, and how much you are currently using.

Awww, look at me! Being all fancy and using command lines! I’m getting pretty excited here…. :D And I’m sending you a screenshot (what else) of the result. I know nothing about the inside of computers so I’m learning a whole lot right now. What I can figure out is I have a lot of ram available for doing stuff which is why my computer is what is performing so wonderfully quick.

OK, I am very perplexed. I don’t know why this happened but I just clicked on my iPhone to get to the DC I am folder and suddenly there’s pictures they’re ready to be imported. All my pictures and all my videos from the other night are there. I don’t get it but I’ll take it.

OK, again I forgot to proofread my material and what I meant was my DCIM folder.

Sounds like a very good idea. And no I don’t know anybody who has an Apple computer, and I’m not likely to get one myself considering how it does not play nice with Linux.

Just a little tip when writing a post or a comment there is a handy tab called preview and that allows you to see your post before you post it. ;) I do it all the time must be the writer in me coming out  as I edit my writing to ensure that what I am saying is what I want to convey to the reader and preview does that and also allows you to pick up errors in spelling. :)

I’m sending you a screenshot
We didn't get the pic, but that's okay. At least you've tried another command, and you see how easy it is. Knowing what your RAM usage is doing can be very helpful if you're having problems with sluggishness or stalling. But it sounds like you may not have any trouble with that... if you don't get carried away trying to do too many things at one time.

We need to get a Reaction icon for "You're very/always welcome"
