Looking for a Linux laptop which I don't have(yet). I am totally sick of MS and Win 10 with all their interminable and never ending downloads and multi reboots and sometime quirky things happen and have to wait for a fix. Can anyone suggest a Linux laptop brand with the right amount of mem and storage size? This will not be a work unit; just to use for research, financial, email, etc. Nothing very heavy. Also what about an AV/malware if needed using Linux. Perhaps looking for something under $500. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you. B-T-Y, some years back I loaded Ubuntu on an old desktop to to play around with it and see what it was like.

Hey. :) Welcome to linux.org ! :) Well, I have my own business where I take care of things like setup and remote management. :) But, off the top..... You don't NEED to find a Linux-based Laptop. System76 has some good ones, but because of your budget, I would recommend Laptops like Lenovo, Dell, HP (I have an HP EliteBook 8470p from eBay for 89 U.S. Dollars, and everything Just Works ™. :)). But, before you buy, do some research. :) Seriously, it helps. :) Linux supports pretty much anything Windows won't (not counting Drivers you need to download for Windows. Linux has many, out of the box, as it were). Just make a USB, go to a local store with Laptops on display, and ask them about testing the Hardware with a Linux Live USB. :) If they don't let you, then they have some issues to work out..... :\

@PeteM Welcome and G'day.
I concur with blackneos940 do your research before buying as it does help you obtain something that you will be happy to have and use for a long time.
