Looking for documentation for the entire network module. Want to find more than just the typical how to. That's just not working for me. I'm looking for verbage accompanied by hierarchy charts, doxygen graphs, etc. for all of the soup to nuts. I was a unix linux pro for 35 years porting unix os, writing drivers, embedded systems, and managing or administering world wide networks. I retired in 2012 and have been away from linux until now. Having had to figure out wifi problems with 2 different distributions I now would like to just follow the entire hierarchy instead of fixing pieces. Can anyone point me to documentation i have described? If none exists and i need to dig through the code I will, but I don' t want to reinvent the wheel.

G'day Bob, and Welcome to Linux.org

All that sounds horrifically complex to me...definitely not my cup of tea

@JasKinasis may be of some help....

I have linked his name....he will see this post....if he can help, he will.

Here you'll find a good resource about networking on linux
https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/networking/start#kernel_networking

But to be honest I doubt that this will help with wifi problem as those are more likely in user space and therefore are more related to daemons and software in use. E.g. if you are using something like NetworkManager, dhcpcd, wpa-supplicant, dnsmasq and so on. But that depends heavily on the distribution which software takes care about which functionality.

Perhaps this will help.
