hello everyone!
i searched " linux beginner " at GOOGLE, many websites recommend or point to this website.:p
to my some confusion ,these websites were written in 2008 or before, but when i browse this forum, some parts' earliest post was in 2011.o_Oit looks strange.
and another question, if i have learned the "linux tutorials", i will be little skilled at operating Linux?or in other words, is the "linux tutorials" enough for a NOOB to get started at Linux's basic operation?
as a foreigner, it's my first time to visit English linux forum, and it may take me some time to adapt to it.:)
i had read "Basic forum courtesy: Rules to follow for all forum users" , i wish i hadn't broken the rules. :D
in addition, i may sometimes post in an impolite way , in which i don't realise , or even in which i think it's normal. in that case, please remind me, for the next better post~:)

G'day cuongchevr, and Welcome to Linux.org

Lets keep it simple.

Your English is just fine....I have no problem reading and understanding what you have written. English is my first language.

Don't worry too much about unintentional impoliteness.......you will soon get used to the happy go lucky attitude of most of the members here.

With the reading you have done....you are ready to roll !!....the next thing is to install a Linux OS (operating system) and use it......practice is the best teacher.

Hello cuongchevr,

The best way to learn about Linux is using it and at first it may seem a bit confusing although it is not.

There are plenty of Linux Mint users on this forum to help get you started or answer questions.

Linux Mint 19 is a good place to start with so have a look at these links and see what you think.

G'day @cuongchevr and welcome to linux.org :)

My friends above have said it very well.

In Linux, we talk a lot about DEs - Desktop Environments. Think of them as being like the difference in "look and feel" between Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.

For example, Linux Mint has 3 DEs to choose from - Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce. Which one you like may influence your choice.

To understand that better, you can read https://renewablepcs.wordpress.com/about-linux/kde-gnome-or-xfce/

To see what sorts of Linux are available, try DistroWatch - https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity - and its Home Page will tell you what is new, as well.

When you think you are ready to try one, if you need help, go to https://www.linux.org/forums/getting-started.148/ and start a new Thread there.

We look forward to enjoying your time with us :D
